Another persistent problem I have noted is that insurance loathes diseases that have no clear biomarkers and are chronic. A great many insurance plans specifically exclude any “psychiatric” disease but would for some reason cover autoimmune encephalitis. Even with AE it’s weird that they will only cover IVIG in an in patient setting rather than out? The discovery of biomarkers is economically necessary to ensure parity for treatment of these diseases.

Does the Copay count towards the Out of Pocket amount or does that just depend on what kind of insurance you have?

How is it possible to meet out of pocket max but not deductible? I've met my max but still owe $76.69 deductible. Now for a procedure I'm told I have to pay the $76.69

For her to pay the $4000 coinsurance, it means that $20, 000 would be the overall amount paid by her plus the insurance. So after $1000 for deductible AND $4000 paid by her coinsurance, $79, 000 remains to be be paid solely by her insurance company, not $95, 000 as shown in the video
