Hello! Here's Duality, the 3rd track from my 1st album - Stepping Stones!
Duality expresses my feelings about my musical journey of learning the piano and the harp. For me, I feel that learning both instruments has given me the best of both worlds. Nevertheless, making the decision to switch my major instrument from the piano to the harp about 2 years ago was a sacrifice that I had to make to continue embarking on this musical journey.
Despite how I am no longer taking piano lessons, I really enjoy exploring the piano from the perspective of a composer instead. With each passing day, I begin to further identify and observe the intricacies and subtleties of the piano; I have become more aware of how versatile the piano is, and I have become more interested in learning to write music for the piano. Hence, Duality is all about learning to combine and balance different things, while making sacrifices when necessary, to get the best of both worlds.
The piano part of this piece was composed while the harp parts were all improvised! Therefore, the process of putting this piece together was an experimentation for me - I could not predict what the final piece would turn out to sound like! While there are definitely parts of this piece that can be improved, I am happy with this 1st attempt at combining composition and improvisation together on my 2 favourite instruments!
