USS ENTERPRISE - A HISTORY

"We are Legend" - the motto of USS Enterprise is well earned after more than 50 years of service to our nation. When the ship was preparing for its final deployment in November, 2011 we took a look back at its long and storied history.

Happy to say I was a Yeoman on board this beast 1977-1981. CO Capt Austin XO Capt Ilg. Worked in the Admin Office, Safety Officer and Damage Control Office. What an experience I will never forget.

Awesome video, My dad and I just got back from the last public tours of the ship. I was stationed on her from 93-95. I am also pleased to hear that the new Ford class CVN-80 will carry the Enterprise name!

I will never forget seeing Her pass by us the USS England CG 22 in 1977 with the round conning tower Star wars had just came out and I had seen it several times so looking up at the bottom of Her elevators kind of put me in mind of an Imperial Cruiser from Star Wars it was huge and overshadowed our ship

My grandpa served aboard the USS Enterprise during WW2 he said it was heartbreaking seeing the ship get scrapped, some sailors may go through the same after all this just wasn't just a vessel it was also a home for many sailors.

This is the ship that inspired Gene Roddenberry to name the space ship that Captain James T. Kirk commanded in Star Trek to be named the USS Enterprise.
