Why would I expect scientists to be godless? God and Science don't mix because they are derived from completely separate modes of thinking, and indoctrination and dogma are powerful things you can't shake off with just a bit of scientific thinking.

What I would expect, and what we do find, is that the percentage of God believers drops significantly as a person's education level rises, and this effect is stronger in the realms of physics and astronomy

It’s mainly because the desire for faith is powerfully for some, but I think another big part is community. I’ll be the first to admit that churches as well as the whole of Christianity does a great job at creating community. Most religions do, but in America they do a 10/10 job at creating a strong social network for its members. It’s hard to give that up, and it’s easier to find reasons to not give it up if you innately don’t want too.

I always hate this constant dichotomy. There is nothing in science that challenges the existence of god. Only our mortal understanding of the world he supposedly created.

But because people dont understand something, they must fear it.

Its all so stupid. I am an atheist, but i dont lack belief because science is my stand in for god, like so many project. Im an atheist because that feeling people have, religious belief, doesnt exist in my brain.

Theres a good quote, though i dont remember who its from.

Science is the "how" of the universe, but God is the "Why"

Which i think fits perfectly. Science doesnt provide meaning, so if you believe in god, theres your meaning. In the view of science by religious people, science could be the exploration of gods craftsmanship.
