Danny Kruger: It's 'impossible' for assisted dying bill to be 'tight enough'

Shadow work and pensions minister Danny Kruger has criticized the End of Life Bill, saying it is "not tight enough" and it is "impossible to be tight enough".

Mr Kruger also expressed his concerns over the principles the bill is establishing, saying that if it was passed, "we are effectively saying "yes, some people are better off dead".

He added if the UK had "top quality palliative care" for everyone, nobody would need the option for assisted dying.

My husbands 15 year old tissue valve cannot be replaced . It was considered 5 years ago and Iwas told he had two years at the most. He was already also well into Alzheimer's. So i took the decision to do my best and live our lives as if i didn't know. We have just spent a very happy couple of hours planning Christmas presents, plenty of laughter. Our next big milestone is our 70 the wedding.
anniversary next June.

So sure were the doctors that he has never been recalled to the cardiac clinic and our G P has directed his care ever since. It is very wrong to expect any mortal to predict the point of death. While waiting for my husband to pass over anytime, my brother had a catastrophic fall and died. Says it all. It is assissted dying because there is no money for assissted living. Putely polically motivated usingba publicity hungry Esther as the Poster girl.

Suicide is a mortal sin so is helping to kill someone we don’t have a right to decide that

Focus on good pallative care, doctors are there to save their people's lives, .not kill people, this is a dangerous path...

He is right, I have seen doctors telling people they have at most 3 months to live, and 10 years later they are still alive, i understand where a grandmother is worried about her grandson starting college the following year, and then they will seek this out, very very dangerous .

His party failed to provide proper palliative care.

I don't think "natural" is the appropriate word when it comes to palliative care, I see both sides of this debate. Terry Pratchett really made me think about this many years ago. Also sadlyseeing how my relatives died "Badly" as he describes here.

Talking out his a***, if someone is terminal and able to opt for assisted dying then they choose when the end is, so saying Drs can't correctly know when the end will be is irrelevant. If the Swiss can offer it in a perfectly legal and dignified way then so can we. Scotland will pass it before Westminster, and if so, we will no doubt see many families travel north for it.

Other countries manage it so pull ya finger out stop moaning and get it sorted. Just a thought but what about doing it the same way as a donor card on your medical records. It’s your own choice
