LOVE that you presented the CLEAN tones of the guitars, other than overdriving everything. I got the "true tone" of both guitars. Great DEMO!

I’ve had both of these guitars, had the exact same colour Gretsch and now have the current ES335 ‘inspired by Gibson’. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, both are very well made and sweet sounding guitars. One difference might be the ‘U’ shaped neck on the G2622, might not be for everyone - seriously though, in my view you’ll be likely to be happy with either.

I prefer the Gretsch, It's also easy to upgrade if you prefer a normal stop tail, bridge or upgrade to regular humbuckers. Nice simple demo... Thanks!

Great playing, and tones. I like em' both. But I'm going with the Gretsch. Both great guitars as well - but that Streamliner is a thing of beauty, and a player! The Streamliners and Electromatics are amazing instruments.

I came in expecting to like the Epiphone better, but I left preferring the Gretsch. It had more clarity and was livelier without being too trebly. It seemed to be better balanced overall.

I find it funny that since they don't put their best sounding pickups in these economy models, they ended up sounding the opposite that their higher end cousins would have. The Gretsch sounds darker and the Epiphone sounds brighter, but if you go listen to a higher end Gretsch and Gibson, typically the Gretsch will sound clearer and brighter, and the Gibson, darker. I'd have to go with the Epiphone in this shootout.

Thanks for the great comparison and also thanks for not using overdrive. Both guitars serve a purpose and both have pleasing tones. I have owned several Gretsch guitars, usually opting for the Electromatic versions over the Streamliners, but they both sound great. I also currently own an Epiphone IBG 335 and a 339. For the type of music I usually play, I prefer the Epiphone, but I currently own a Tri Five and it also has its place.

has to be the Gretsch, I own a streamliner & an Electromatic jet, streamliner is so light & comfortable to play, my favourite of the two

THE STREAMLINER DEFINITELY HAS A MORE PLEASING TONALITY. I OWN BOTH AND WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT THE G2622T, IS SUPERIOR!

I tried out the Epiphone ES 335 style and years ago, had a Epi Wildkat semi hollow. I got rid of the Wildkat because the neck was too thick and tired out my hands quickly. I also, tried out the Ibanez AS73 Artcore. Both were fine. I bought the Gretsch G2622 Streamliner and love it. The neck is very comfortable. It's lightweight and sounds great but what I LOVE about it is the layout of the controls. With Gibson esque semi hollow, they put all the knobs, switches and guitar cord all over each other. With Gretsch, it's very intelligent. The guitar cord goes in the rear and out of the way. The switch for the pickups is up where it should be, out of the way like a Les Paul switch is. The volume and tone knobs are perfect. You can blend the two pickups for sound and then you can raise or lower the volume and the sound stays the same blend of bridge and neck pickups.

It's great played on a clean channel but I'll tell you that the guitar just snarls with the Broadtron pickups on a dirty channel.

Im a huge gretsch fan (Dream guitar the 50th anniversary model).. but Ive played both guitars in shops and the Epi sounds much more "lively".. jangly.. the Gretcsh pulls out the middles and just "compresses" the sound.. so ya, Id prefer the Epiphone. Always a pickup change possible of course...And the neck was very comfortable for me on the Epi (pretty slim, as Gibson 335)
The only Gretsch I started to enjoy was the "upper class cheap one" the 5420.

Gretsch sounds much clearer . I just purchased one from GC. On sale no less. Happy camper..

I agree, both are nice sounding guitars. Personally I favor the Gretch for 2 reasons. 1) the Gretch has a bit more depth in tone and 2) even if you go to the Gretch Electromatic out of the box, that's still ~$400 less than the Epiphone.

Hi! very helpful shootout! Is there a big difference soundwise between the G2622 and the G5622 (they're all sold out in nearby stores so I can't try both guitars in person). In other words, should I wait and save up for the Electromatic instead of the Streamliner? Thank you very much

Both usable tones. The Gretsch LOOKS better to me.
