Of all the companies in the industry of network-attached storage, few are as secretive as Synology. Whether you are an in the industry of network appliances and storage, the in-house IT guy, or a professional consumer (prosumer) who is just in the market for a new piece of kit, finding out information on the latest hardware and software releases from Synology NAS can often be rather difficult. I have been covering pretty much any and all new releases from Synology NAS for a few years now and although they are always rather secretive at the best of times, things are especially oblique in this latest generation of 2020 and 2021 range. There are lots of reasons for this, ranging from their brand's own elusive reputation to share information till the last moment, to the impact of natural disasters in the east and world spreads of Convid-19 having an impact on manufacturers as they either preemptively close/lower staff numbers, or are in areas of a large impact. So, today I wanted to run down everything we know about the software and hardware that we know is coming for 2020/2021 in the Synology portfolio, as well as update as much as I can as time goes on.

Hi. Just found your channel and this video was really helpful, thanks. Is there a similarly simple way to run 2-way sync with and external USB drive?

I'm curious, if my NAS has 2 USB ports can they be configured so one automatically backs up TO USB from NAS and the other automatically backs up FROM USB to NAS?

I have done this and it’s works great. Thanks. However how do you create multiple USB Copy programs to a single drive? I keep getting an error when I try to create the 2nd rule.

Thanks.

USB Copy is slow when Exporting data to my USB3.0 hard drive. I tried exFAT and MacOS Extended (Journaled). It made no difference to the speed. Any idea why? Thanks!

Ok so I have 4 new 14tb drives in the mail. Upgrading from my 6tb drives. I have a usb back up with 13tb on it (all the data). Would it be quicker to swap one drive at a time or just pull the bandaid and rebuild the complete pool from the back up? Ds920+

So it seems you need to create a separate task for each folder on the nas. Is there no option to have multiple/all folders selected and mirrored in 1 task? If not, in case the auto dismount when backup is finished options is active for all separate tasks, will the hard drive only be demounted after the longest running task is finished?

Hi there. thanks for the video. I find this app slightly confusing; when trying to clone all of the data (ALL files and ALL folders to my nas in a selected folder) do I need to select data import and it will work like this? the thing that throws me off is the 'file filter' tab because I don't want to just copy specific filetypes across, I want to copy everything across. Im guessing the file filter tab is irrelevant when using the data import function?

Question: wanna make an incremental backup via USB ( some important and often used documents) but the shared folder containing this files I want to encrypt. Is it possible to do that and make an scheduled incremental backup when the shared folder is “locked” ? Thanks in advance

Does the NAS recognise different USB drives? So this one is for backup from NAS but this one is a photo drive and the NAS should back up from it?

Hi Thank you: I have 1, 5 t on my NAS. I want to have a "copy" on an "external USB HD" as a second off site backup. When I do not have internet connection I want to have full access to the files on this "external USB HD". Not a Hyper Backup version. To "copy" is to slow. I need to do this on a daily. What I need is a "xcopy" command. (old windows command.) Any suggestions Thank you
