Welcome to a special edition of the 18th Ask Me Anything (AMA) episode, part of Huberman Lab Premium. This episode is a recording of the live stream AMA, exclusive to our Premium members. We've decided to make the full-length version available to everyone, including non-members of Huberman Lab Premium.

I’m so excited to hear about that research you were speaking about in the beginning. It’s refreshing to see science think outside of the box with these things. People need to know that they have some control over things like depression and goal setting. The nervous system’s associations with the immune system has really fascinated me over the last decade or so due to my personal experiences. Thank you Andrew. 🙏🏼 I’ll watch the episode now. Lol.

21:20 You can't delegate motivation. I remind those I support building new healthy habits of that often as they look for something external to motivate them like you mentioned. I really hope people link what you said about the work itself being a reward to help wire in the new behavior they're trying to create. It's a really powerful piece of the process of change people overlook only focusing on the outcome.

ever since I started listening to the podcast in march, I quit smoking and started cold showering ( on full cold setting ) almost every day, and feeling much better~ now I'm working on reducing my caffeine addiction and trying to set rules when not to drink, cause it makes me unable to sleep well, but at the same time its hard to resist

I like writing down goals and signing off on it. I use my Goal Strategy Checklist and Planner to state the goal and deadline, affirm my motivation and reward, list mini steps and check them off daily or weekly. 😊
