Yeah sorry Dain fans but Thranduil is thousands of years old. Has had many drwarf lifetimes to hone his battle strategy and combat skills. They actually pulled back and refined his fighting style in the movies because of this. Thranduil is an absolute King and extremely powerful.

I think IQ in battle is for Dain, in the cut part of the film when the elves shoot a rain of arrows, Dain managed to protect his army as well as being able to counterattack

Dain across tolkiens books is considered the strongest dwarf and one of the strongest warriors of all time. It would be close but Dain wins. He has better feats and is just a better warrior.

It’s canon that elves are stronger than man and dwarves despite their lithe frames. The only advantage dwarves have over elves in battle is their numbers because elves don’t reproduce much and often. So actually Thranduil is stronger than Dain. He fought with dragons in the war of elves and orcs and lived to tell the tale. Dain could never hope to defeat Thranduil on a 1v1 in his entire lifetime.
