My favourite object as a kid. A star that appeared to survive it's own supernova. 20 years later we realised it was 2 stars, maybe a white dwarf companion going nova with material falling on it. Now 20 years more later we know it's 2 massive stars in a 5 year highly eccentric orbit. This system keeps delivering mystery. Love it. Maybe we will solve it in my lifetime?

I hope I'm not the only one that replies (in my head) to every intro, with "Hello wonderful Anton, this is person."

The 1850's outbreak was probably caused by a 3rd component spiralling into the primary. Thats where most of the 30 solar masses of material comes from. The increase in X-Ray/Gamma rays every 5.5 years are caused by the colliding solar winds of the 2 stars. It's one of the primary imaging targets for me as I'm located in Australia and its close to the southern celestial pole. Nice update Anton.

Faaaanfrikkin'tastistic, Anton!!!
You all might not believe this, but when I first saw thermal vision - as a kid, about 60 yrs ago - in a flash I saw there had to be enormous potential of using color to decode the Universe, somehow ... I'm no scientist, only stupidly intuitive if there's such a thing.
I love that this is happening in my lifetime.

One of the best things other than Anton’s content is that there are no Raid Shadow Legends ads.

just imagine how much sharper the infrared will get once JWST trains its eye on Eta Carinae

The modelling of a nebula 7500 light years away! Mind blowing.
Wonderful images.
The speed of the ejecta probably means that using historical observations they can track the pathway of some of the currents in the materials coming from the star/s.

I come here to escape from corona, politics, and corruption. Welcome change of focus. Thanks, Anton!

I really enjoyed how well this was put together. It made me think about the seemingly very strong correlation between this "minor" explosion and the signature of our universe as a whole.

Thanks for the links, that 3D model makes me feel like it's my birthday. :)

I know what's inside that nebula - It's a Kinder surprise!
