Student Pilot and Flight Instructor Killed in Plane Crash

A student pilot and flight instructor died after a plane crashed into an Oregon house. A witness could not believe what he was seeing as the small plane was in a death spiral. The next moment, the plane slammed into a house leaving a gaping hole. Student pilot Barrett Bevacqua and his instructor Michele Cavallotti were killed instantly in the crash. The third person on board, Emily Hurd, miraculously survived the crash. Inside Edition's Ann Mercogliano has more.

Could be spin recovery training. The instructor will deliberately put the plane into a spiral and have the student get it out. It's an essential part of flight training that every pilot needs to know and experience. It's possible they were doing that here and something happened during it or they couldn't properly restart the engine.

This is so sad. My condolences to the family. I hope the girl who survived this too has a speedy recovery and hopefully get some therapy too. I can't even begin to imagine the sheer terror of what she witnessed in that plane.

If that was training for stalls or spins, that's messed up. They shouldn't allow that kind of training above areas with housing. A friend/passenger/third party along for the ride shouldn't be there for that either.

I'm from the town (or rather, area, but am very familiar with the town) that this happened in, and one of the students there died in a helicopter crash a couple years ago. This hits home, for sure. RIP to the two, and hoping for a quick recovery for Emily.

Perhaps they were practicing stalls, but unfortunately it led to a spin and they could not recover. RIP to both on board, speedy recovery to the survivor.
