It's crazy how people don't understand what relative pitch is. Some people can hear a song or a note and know exactly how to recreate that sound on the guitar straight away. They just know what every note on the guitar sounds like and how they work together

I bought a RHCP tab book recently and it shows that this intro is played with a capo on the 2nd fret. So you just do very basic chords for the intro guitar.
Of course it has multiple guitar parts and the others don’t use the capo.

I call 🧢🧢🧢 the way you immediately went into the right shape. learning by Ear is alot of trail and error maybe live stream doing random song request? I understand relative pitch could explain some of it but relative pitch is used more to figure out melodies not full on arpeggiated chords with the exact right shape in 30 seconds of a song that uses odd shapes that are really not used to often in pop music. also this is one of the songs almost every guitarist I know immediately wants to learn once theyve got the basics down cause it's extremely popular " I haven't played this since I was 5" 🧢

Well most intermediate/advanced players know that frusciante uses that chord shape a lot so i am not surprised that he went there based on that.

Also, I am not a teacher but almost any person I know who is at that level can pick up most songs by ear
