“They weathered the storm” when referring to their survival of the drought. I like it!

A trick i learned for dealing with the tiny fuzzy needles is to put Elmer's glue on it and let it dry. When you peel it off it will pull all the little spines with it.

Great video. Thanks. I now know to put my Opuntia out in the sun. I didn't realise they could be outside in the UK. But with our severe heat, I think they will be safe. They are bought for my tortoise. If she will eat them. Very fussy tort. 🙄

My prickly pear has 2-3inch long needles, I’m excited to see it when it gets older!

I just brought one home and seem to have knocked its arm off in transport which made me sad. I’m in Canada, zone 3. My thoughts are to let the piece scab over for a week and then plant it. Also hoping that it might grow another arm or more. Your thoughts?

Bunny Ear Cactus only refers to Opuntia Microdasys, as far as I know. Opuntia Monacantha isn't from the desert, but as far as I know, from the grasslands of northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil; I'm sure that they need more water than standard desert prickly pears. I have an Opuntia Vulgaris (common) from the same area, and it's really thirsty; it will droop (Drooping Prickly Pear), if not watered several times a week. Opuntia Elata is also from the same area.

Just their oat milk latte. Used to have one next to my place before I moved and tbh I miss it.

I amateurly twisted a pad off an adult green plant. I had invisible spines in my hands for days! I literally assumed they were basically harmless.

I used to live by the Mediterranean and these grew everywhere on the island. We had orange and purple fruiting ones and the purple ones were best for eating. I now live in cold, grey, damp Ireland but like a challenge so got a pad to grow. It's in my polytunnel which is quite humid (70% +) but the cactus gets no water and has started to send up new growth so it looks to be happy. I think we have it under control regarding water but I made the soil it is in using a bit of compost but lots of gravel and sand and I'm concerned as to how often it might need feeding since it's in a pot and what signs it will show that it needs some food, any tips?

I’ve had mine outside for about 2 months I live in Wisconsin btw, but it was only outside in direct sunlight for maybe 2 weeks in the beginning then we ended up with a 90 degree day and it got shriveled and soft. After that I moved it and placed it in an area where it’s in shade for 90% of the day only gets sunlight during sunrise and it’s doing so much better.
It’s even sprouting some prickly pear fruit now.

Hello! The weather is warming up here in Missouri, so I'll do my best to leave them outside 24/7 starting here soon, but In the winter, how do their needs change, watering wise, sun wise, indoors in a colder environment? Thanks!

Is it normal for them to look like they are always stretching?? I can never tell if mine would have flatter/thicker paddles if it had higher light.

Recently got an opuntia monacantha variegata. 3 of the new "pads" have orange blister looking areas on them. Is this sun burn? Can't find any info when I Google. Just hope it isn't some sort of fungus. Tx!!

I love eating the mexican prickly pears, my grandmother would always bring me back a box when she would come back from Saltillo. Cactus r a fav although I do not like handling em. 🤕 They really are simple to care for tho. 😁

How much sun required for a healthy growth? I have mine indoors * in my room* should I consider taking it out a few times a week for some sun?
