Even if you don't have an overlock, you can zigzag the edges or overcast the fabric by hand.

Good video for beginners. Additional tips for your viewers: A good steam on the overlocked knit helps reduce the wavyness. Use a pressing cloth over synthetic fabrics though. Using a tailors clapper afterwards helps as well. If a sewing machine is the only machine available for sewing a thin knit, I've often placed gift wrapping tissue under the fabric while stitching so that the machine doesn't eat the fabrics. Then I rip off the paper once I'm done stitching. 😉
