I wish Dr. Felton would have been my history professor in college. He makes learning so engrossing. I'm quite the WWII buff, but he never fails to teach me something I didn't know.

This was the first movie I ever went to without my family. In 1968 I was 9 years old, a friend, also 9 years old and I walked a couple of miles to the theater by ourselves. All of it was such an adventure for me.

Thank you for your enthusiastic tour of the Schloss Adler. I was fortunate to be working at MGM British Studios during the production of Where Eagles Dare. I recall the sound stage being extended below floor level to accommodate the cable car, a model of the castle on top of the rocky crag, lining up in the staff canteen alongside extras dressed in German uniforms. An occasional glimpse of Richard Burton and of course the lovely Ingrid Pitt. The year before in 1967 the Dirty Dozen had finished filming and the château together with ornamental lake and bridge were still intact. While all this was going on Stanley Kubrick was producing/directing 2001 A Space Odyssey. A year later in 1969 Mosquito Squadron was completed. Sadly the following year the Studios were closed down and the good times came to an end.

So great to see how a Hollywood movie influences children in a positive way. Not always accurate, but a great story can have a big impact on future ambitions. It's not hard to imagine that a young Mark Felton was influenced by this like many of us were.
Thank you sir for another great story and video!

I saw it for the first time as a young boy in the early seventies when it came on tv as an evening movie. My dad made popcorn an we watched it together. I was blown away by the suspense and the cool scenery of the wintry mountains and castle. I own the movie to this day and still have a Where Eagles Dare movie night with popcorn.

Where Eagles Dare was a great movie. Clint Eastwood was excellent in his role as The Lieutenant. Whether he is The Lieutenant, Blondie, Callahan or any other character, Eastwood never disappoints and always keeps it real.

This film has the best opening soundtrack of all time. Ron Goodwin is a genius. He also did the OST and the unmistakable opening for The Battle of Britain.

Well, there's something I didn't expect to find in a Mark Felton video, A sense of humor! Even today I occasionally break into "Broadsword calling Danny Boy!", of course it's always in my best Richard Burton accent ;-)

I saw the film in the theater in 68, I was 13. Even then, being a history nerd I took notice of the inaccuracies. That didn't stop me from enjoying the movie immensely and Dr. Felton too it seems.

A truly classic film. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood in one film ? You can't get much better than that !

That's the inspiration for the Iron Maiden's song "Where Eagles Dare". The castle also appears in the Amazon series "The man in the high castle".

A fun, humorous short Dr. Felton! I remember seeing the film here in the US when it debuted in 1969 around the same time as "Battle of Britain" and enjoying it tremendously, even with the improbable story line of Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood blowing away every German in sight, all of whom couldn't seem to shoot straight or who were incredibly incompetant.
A great action fim just the same. Richard Burton took the role because he was tired of doing cerebral films and wanted to do a good old-fashioned actioner.
And did you know Ingrid Pitt (who played Heidi) was a Holocaust survivor? It's true everybody, check her story out! Remarkable woman! There's a lot more to her than horror movies.

I read the Alastair MacLean book "Where Eagles Dare" before I saw the movie. It was uncanny how close the movie was to the book, every scene I had imagined in the book was recognized in the movie, hats off to the movie makers.

My best war film of all time. My uncle took me to see this film in 1968/9 when it was released in Australia, just the best adventure. I was 10 yrs old and learned a lesson on the way. Walking past a pedestrian crossing control panel I pressed the ‘call’ button. My uncle spotted me and made me walk across the crossing and back. I’ve been mindful ever since. What a movie!
