Every once in awhile we manage to catch a glimpse of a bobcat at a zoo, but I've never seen one in the wild. Have you?

One of my favorite animals to run into in the wild. 20+ years spending a LOT of time in the woods here in TN and I've seen exactly 2 ever.
I saw a smaller one getting the absolute sh*t kicked out of it and literally being rolled down a hill by a mama doe during early bow season. The other was a large one, presumably male, that came down to a creek for a drink while I was drifting by stock still in full camo in my little sit in kayak. He saw me and couldn't seem to figure out what I was, so he just casually walked away rather than bolting. Made my day.

In my home town we had a tagged male bobcat that was 42 pounds. The conservation officer said he typically doesn't find them that heavy. The paper made a big deal out of it at the time I wasn't even aware we had bobcats.

Lynxes are cats that constitute the genus Lynx, there are four living lynx species: the Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus), the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx), the Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis), and the Bobcat (Lynx rufus), of the four living lynx species, the iberian lynx is the most basal living lynx species and evolved first, then followed by the eurasian lynx, with the most recent split being between the canada lynx and the bobcat/red lynx, in fact, this makes the canada lynx the closest living relative of the bobcat.

The population map is outdated(by it looks like several decades). The entire state of Michigan has a relatively healthy bobcat population, although they are more common in the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula. They are found, however, in every county in the state, even including the urbanized s.e. portion of the lower pen. Just wanted to update!

I just bought a coat made from seven Bobcats... These cats live only a few years in the wild, yet these seven have lived on in a beautiful coat since the 1950's when it was made. I feel a great honor to be able to appreciate these beautiful animals who gave up their lives to live on in this way. I wonder if any of those seven cats have reincarnated?

Did President Biden include bobcats when he signed the bill to prevent private ownership of big cats? If not, I swear to God that I will boycott any and all cub petting facilities that try to get around the law by using bobcats!
