Jeff Bezos Plan: How To Colonize Moon With Blue Origin!

There's a lot of plans to go to Mars in order to colonize the planet. But for the head of Amazon, he has a much simpler idea: colonize the moon, and he has the plan to do it. Join us as we explore it!

Watch our "To The Moon" Playlist:

9. The Jeff Bezos View On Space
For those of you who don't know, Jeff Bezos is the founder of Amazon, you know the major website where you likely have bought more things than you care to admit? And throughout his life, he's had a fascination with space. So much so that it was him who found the Apollo 11 Engines that were jettisoned during the launch of the legendary mission. Does that not sound impressive? Did I forget to mention that he took a submersible to the depths of the ocean to find them? Because he did because he loves space.
He also has a very practical view about space, and why Earth is so special:
“Earth is the best planet,” Bezos quipped. “It is not close. This one is really good. Don’t even get me started on Venus.”
Venus for the record is a planet that is so hot that any attempts to live on it would be extremely difficult not to mention the planet is filled with gasses that we can't breathe. That's why he joked about it.
Anyway, for Bezos, he knows that the biggest danger isn't NOT exploring space, or even failed attempts to get to Mars, it's staying on Earth when we KNOW that there are finite resources here on the planet.
“What happens when unlimited demand meets finite resources?” he asked. “Rationing.”
"That’s the path that we would be on,” he added. “It would lead for the first time to where your children and grandchildren have worse lives than you. That's a bad path."
Which brings us back to space, because he knows that in space we have options, options to live, but also, options on how to make life on Earth so much better. But how is that possible?

8. Colonies and Resources
Obviously when it comes to exploring space, the plan is to go and create colonies, and Bezos is not only behind this, he feels we need to get this done...yesterday.
“Our choice,” one of Bezos’s plans he laid stated, “stasis and rationing or dynamism and growth."
Clearly he is a guy who feels we should go and be dynamic and grow the Earth. He even laid out his plan in part by noting that we need self-sustaining colonies in key places in the universe to act as a sort of "relief" to the population on Earth. After all, if they're not here taking the resources of others, that gives more for everyone else. Basic supply and demand.
But unlike many, he's not looking to Mars (unlike NASA and SpaceX among others), he feels that humanity has a lot to get from the moon itself. Not to mention he feels it'd be better and cheaper to try and launch a colony mission there versus one to Mars. And technically, he is right. The problem for a moon colony mission has always been whether we could work with the limited survival resources there. But for Bezos and others, they're looking at the more financial reasoning to go there. Because what the moon lakes in atmosphere and water, it makes up for in: cobalt, gold, helium, iron, palladium, platinum, tungsten and other resources.
However, just because he thinks the moon is better doesn't mean it's any easier to get there. Except, that he has a way to possible do it better, cheaper, and of course, put him and Amazon on the map once again in a big way. He calls it...Blue Origin.

7. Blue Origin
What is Blue Origin? Well, that would be Jeff Bezos' personal space company (not unlike what Elon Musk has with SpaceX), and what he is working on is a reusable engine that wouldn't just send astronauts to the moon, but also send tourists into space. All of which would help make Bezos billions of dollars in contracts from various space agencies since his rockets are currently very advanced. Plus, having reusable rockets saves time from having to build individual ones for each mission. Which obviously can be very costly as well.

Building on the moon makes more since than Mars. Neither place has anything to sustain life but at least the moon makes it easier to fix mistakes

I like Blue Origin’s plan but I suspect SpaceX will beat them to the Moon. SpaceX prices will be cheaper once they perfect the Starship stainless steel body.

This comes across as a one sided, 3rd grade level, ad for Blue Origin.

The music is exhausting and unnecessary.

If Bezos sends female Astronauts to the moon... it will be “Amazon Women On The Moon.”

Why does this video show so many shots of the space shuttle? Stop.

The video isn’t for anyone who cares about precision, accuracy, or deep understanding. It talks about New Shepherd, a rocket that cannot reach orbit, as if it is a “powerful” rocket and a key ingredient in going to the moon. It shows pictures of fantasy space stations while talking about ISS. It says oil and gas might be poor choices for power on a lunar colony because of “what if one runs out of oil and gas” (rather than saying that neither are known to exist on the moon at all).

I am a 70 year old tech-head -who has been an Asimov fan, et al, since I could crawl - so let's say that I have read 1000s of sci-fi books! We have been talking about interplanetary travel for as long as I have been alive, but here we are 50 years after Apollo and not one bloody inch nearer - just a lot of talk, talk and more talk!!! And a few re-hash of Moon crawlers are best suggestions we can come up with??? Call me when we get serious, the rest is just re-hash of 50 year plans!!

Personally, I think the best place to start off for a colony would be next to a lunar lava tube. You could then use inflatable bladder-based structures to create decently large living areas while being adequately protected from micrometeorites and radiation. Naturally some surface infrastructure would be needed, but as far as being able to quickly create large work and living areas, utilizing these lava tubes would probably be the best choice. The only real question is if there are valuable and easily accessible resource deposits near these lava tube sites.

So have Jeff and Elon made an agreement on who gets what planet/Moon.

I hope he does it, but Blue Origin hasn't even been to space yet.
Also, not every video has to be a numbered list.

I can already see it. Bezos claiming the moon and Elon Musk claiming mars...

There is a bigger reason for Mars that they are not telling us. between Jupiter and Mars is the Asteroid Belt. The value of an Asteroid can go up to a Trillion Dollars. You do the math. Mars will eventually used to cash in on the Asteroid belt.

Bezos should send water soaked high tensile rope to the moon on a rocket that will land like an arrow and stab deeply into the moon. Then you pull the rope out of the top of the arrow rocket; the part farthest out from the surface. There are actually 6 ropes and they pay out three at a time to create guy wire supports for the rocket pole/water tower. Then a sheet is spread over the ropes to make a TeePee and there you have it; The first workshop TeePee/water tank on the moon.

This 'video' is full of fail. Whoever wrote it has clearly done only the most superficial research, and highlights all the wrong things.

1) New Sherpard is sub-orbital! How can you miss out such a basic fact? It will technically get people into space, but they won't stay there more than a few minutes. New Glenn is the first orbital vehicle, and it will have to be man rated to put people in space, or on the moon.

2) Your description of what needs to be done for a moon colony avoids several minor points like radiation protection, freaking life support, in situ resource utilisation, food, how you extract the resources, and indeed practically everything critical. It basically comes down to a bunch of pretty pictures and some waffling about petrol.

4/10 - See me after class.

Instead of Mars/Venus/ moon, why he/we doesn't/don't make/ convert deserts into a habitable area, there is lots of surface there, many people can live there ( if there are the conditions).

Big cloud project :

You can make/produce a( thick harmless) giant cloud above Africa/ deserts ( covering it all), it can decreasing 30% of heat, or more .

Thermos project :

You can make giant thermos in deserts, building cities inside it , but filling its walls with air( not with vacuum), that is easier , important is to be the dark/ shadow between two walls of giant thermos, that is sufficient, is it not necessary to make vacuum inside the walls of thermos, but is sufficient be /set the dark/shadow between two walls of thermos, that is sufficient to create a cool area inside the thermos( without vacuum), ( similar things ), so it is giant thermos almost( it is not exactly a thermos).

Hole project :

You can dig/ pierce make make a giant hole inside ( under of surface of deserts building many cities/neighborhoods inside it( like giant thermos inside it ), it would be cool weather( normal temperature )there, ( under the surface)

Floating islands( project) :

You can choose/ find positions on ocean's surface which has normal temperature ( cool weather) and build floating islands there . There is a lot of surface there.

I have looked at a lot of videos about colonizing the moon. And I haven't found any with my same ideas. I think we should set up a moon colony on earth. We should have inflatable domes, which we cover with 3D printers with simulated moon mortar. The domes should be connected to each other by inflatable tunnels covered with simulated moon mortar. There should be living quarters, hydroponic green houses, gardens with garden soil for recreational gardening, a 5 acre pasture with one inch of garden soil and one inch of grass turf, a park with artificial turf and with small sections of real grass turf, and maybe even a very small zoo. All the domes will have plastic floors so no water is lost. Condensation forming on the ceilings will be drained into the water supply. All the domes will be blown up with compressed air from earth and will have a refresh system, which will refresh the air and maintain the air pressure. Humidity, Temperature will be maintained by humidifiers, heaters, fans and coolers. Light will be provided by multi-color LEDs, mostly white. Power will be supplied at first by solar power, and later by nuclear or fusion power. There will be a bull, a cow, two sheep, and two goats, two chickens, two turkeys, two fish, and two rabbits. There will also be pets, two dogs, two cats, two bunnies, etc. (and maybe a small zoo) All of this will be set up by astronauts and robots before the colonist arrive.

The first colonist will be 5 fathers and 5 mothers, and 90 babies. The parents will be good parents, gardeners, farmers, zoo keepers, teachers, etc.. During the first two years an exact duplicate facility will be built on the moon. When the babies are two years old, they will move to the moon and live on the moon. Or if it is proven that they will be too young to travel to the moon than the facility on earth will be added to, to accommodate 10 more parents and 90 more babies. The two year olds would move into the new addition. Every two years the facility will be either added to, or 100 people will move to the moon. This plan will allow the kids to grow up in the isolation of the colony, and will make it easier for them to live in the isolation of the colony on the moon. And will allow them to grow up on the moon and be better able to adjust to the lower gravity on the moon, although some artificial gravity maybe eventually provided. This artificial gravity will especially be good for the parents. The kids will have everything in the facility to keep them occupied and entertained. Also they could have some books, movies, games, etc., especially adapted for them, being careful not give them anything that would make them feel isolated.

After 20 years there could be 2000 people living on the moon, most of whom grew up on the moon. This program could be speeded up so in 20 years there could be 4000, 6000, or 8000 people living on the moon.

This program could be simultaneously done to colonize Mars so we could have 2000 people on the Moon and Mars at the same time. For the moon we could send supplies every month, but for Mars we could only send supplies every 26 months. So I suggest we send 10, 20, or 30 rockets to Mars every 26 months all at the same time.

We could have several refueling stations along the way to mars and orbiting mars so rockets could refuel along the way to mars and right before landing on mars so the empty rocket would have enough fuel to take off again, refuel in space and return to Earth. Eventually the moon and Mars could export minerals or small expensive items that were assembled on the moon or Mars, like jewelry, iphones, iwatches, etc. Or grown on the moon like caviar, marijuana, etc.
