Disprespectful and unprofessional, end of story. Since we don't know Dawn's backstory apart from what she said, the initial response of the judges was based solely on her appearance. I think we can all agree that she can't sing, and it's unfortunate that her family and friends didn't or weren't able to gently tell her so, but that's no excuse for being so rude. Most people wouldn't have the courage to enter the competition, so good on Dawn for trying. Perhaps it would be best if video footage such as this wasn't publicised at all but, in the meantime, we're perhaps left wondering what the (highly dubious?) motivation is for doing so in the first place.
