Testing out the Chinese Popcorn Maker - this was scary!! 😅

Ohh, there were people making popcorn like this all over the streets when I was a kid. I know they will make a loud pop sound at some point, so every time I walked near one of them, I would get super paranoid... They do taste good though.

They are round because of the type of corn. Butterfly popcorn is the normal stuff that you see at cinemas and mushroom popcorn is the round stuff that you see in toffee popcorn

My theory as to why the shape happens is because with American popcorn, it’s slowly heated until the steam pressure inside finds a weak spot in the shell and all the fluffy stuff exits out a small hole. With this one, all the pressure is contained and the moment it’s released, the entire shell is a weak point due to the immense pressure, making the corn expand in all directions, not just one weak point.

THAT'S where that cereal comes from! My Mum used to buy this cereal exactly like that, weirdest shape & texture, I couldn't stand it but I also couldn't work out how they got it that way
