Does Radiation Make Air Travel Dangerous?

Radiation is all around us, and when you travel by plane, you’re exposed to cosmic radiation. So what does this mean for our health? Does air travel expose us to unsafe radiation levels? Check out this episode to see how flying among cosmic rays affect us in the sky.

Reminds me of that song:
"Ich bin so schön verstrahlt..."
roughly translated to:
"I'm so blissfully radiated..."

Can you do one on cerebral aneurysms? I had one rupture at 19 and would love to learn more!

+SciShow The increased risk of chromosomal damage might actually not be tied to radiation whatsoever. A study once suggested, that flight-personal might be in the same group of people, that form cancer-clusters around nuclear powerplants. The thought is, that the surroundings of nuclear powerplants tend to have a population-mix that is quite different to your regular population, as specialists move into that area, closer to their work in the plant and as such, bring with them unfamiliar (to the local population) viruses and bacteria. I can't find the study anymore, but I believe the most likely culprit, was an HPV-variant.

Follow up question:

Does the amount of radiation that astronauts get exposed to significantly increase their risk of getting cancer? This is honestly the main deterrent for me for seriously considering being an astronaut

As a flight attendant, I'm marginally more concerned about this.

ok so if you fly back and forth from New York to London, is that 200 hours straight? or is it 200 over a certain amount of time?(like over a month) I know that a typical flight from NY to Lo takes about 7 hours....

maybe its early morning for me...maybe in not braining right lol.
