Humans are just animals is the message. A sly comparison between humanity and “the jungle” and the observation that the two are much the same.

I've always seen this song as a metaphor on the bustle of city life. "Walking through forests of palm tree apartments" then poetically reducing humanity to its animalistic tendencies. Bungle means both fighting and fornicating. "a tiger when I want love...a snake when we disagree. "

This is the first Jethro tune I heard. My third grade teacher played it every Friday for a sing-along. I miss the 70's. It was real life, in your face and awesome!

When I was 7 years old, 50 years ago this was my favorite song. I just love the line "crocodile nasty's"

A lot of great stories about this band. They landed on the name, Jethro Tull because when they were first starting out and playing local clubs and venues, they were so bad that venues would refuse to re-hire them, so their manager kept changing their name in order to get new gigs. They stuck with Tull after finally being invited back to play. Heard this from Ian Anderson himself on an interview from a Coast to Coast AM radio broadcast. It was Anderson for an entire hour and it was really fascinating.

My third favourite band of all time. They`re first single came out in 1969 and they`re still going. Heavy horses, wondering aloud, Flying Dutchman, Budapest and Living in the past are some great songs. Fat man is so funny. Its hard to pick a favourite as so many songs are awesome.

A very unique band. They really shine when seen live. The lead singer, Ian Anderson plays the flute and it is on most of their songs.

I think this song is about the nature of life, learning to live with it, and sometimes even enjoying it. That's a brighter vision than the one in Locomotive Breath. It has elements that are just as dark, but it has light elements, too.
