Jethro Tull - Aqualung (Official Music Video)

Socials:

This song is the first track and the title track on the 1971 Jethro Tull album titled 'Aqualung'.

Lyrics:

Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent
Snot running down his nose
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes
Hey, Aqualung
Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run
Hey, Aqualung
Feeling like a dead duck
Spitting out pieces of his broken luck
Whoa, Aqualung

Sun streaking cold, an old man wandering lonely
Taking time the only way he knows
Leg hurting bad as he bends to pick a dog-end
He goes down to the bog and warms his feet
Feeling alone, the army's up the road
Salvation a la mode and a cup of tea
Aqualung my friend, don't you start away uneasy
You poor old sod, you see, it's only me

Do you still remember
December's foggy freeze?
When the ice that
Clings on to your beard was
Screaming agony (Hey!)
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
With deep-sea-diver sounds
And the flowers bloom like
Madness in the spring

Sun streaking cold, an old man wandering lonely
Taking time the only way he knows
Leg hurting bad as he bends to pick a dog-end
He goes down to the bog and warms his feet
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Feeling alone, the army's up the road
Salvation a la mode and a cup of tea
Aqualung my friend, don't you start away uneasy
You poor old sod, you see, it's only me
Me-me-me-me-me
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

[Outro]
Whoa, Aqualung

Aqualung, the album” to many, is Tull’s masterpiece. The title track and “Locomotive Breath,” with their catchy riffs, would be joined by “My God,” “Cross-Eyed Mary,” and “Hymn 43” as classic rock staples. There’s no arguing with its commercial success, having sold more than seven million copies and continuing to outsell anything in the back catalog.

Ian Anderson, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Robert Plant, Greg Lake, Keith Emerson, Jimmy Page... an incredible generation of musicians. I love them.

Jethro Tull was one my dad's favorite bands. When I was a kid, he would CRANK their songs to 11. It was the most passionate I ever saw him be. May he rest knowing that he bore a son who loves these guys.

"The Army's up the road; salvation 'a la mode, ' and a cup of tea." Is absolutely brilliant.

My dad passed away from Dementia.
Amazingly he never forgot Jethro Tull..
Ask him what he wanted to listen too....He'd hum the riff of Aqualung.

A song 60 years ahead of its intended audience.

Thank you Mr. Anderson for your kindness towards less fortunate folks like myself. I've been homeless and I'm a recovering alcoholic. I am Aqualung. God bless Ian Anderson.

Oh yes, Jethro Tull with the unmistakable Ian Anderson. The good thing about the 70s was the fantastic music and the attitude to life, which cannot be compared in any way with today, 2025.

Aqualung is the kind of song that when you hear it on the radio you stop what ever you are doing for the next 6.30 minutes and just enjoy it

My Mom was a big Tull fan when she was pregnant with me. Ian is my middle name after Mr. Anderson. I'm very honored & proud. Aqualung is one of my top ten all time favorite albums. They are so unique & talented. Each & every member. Phenomenal rock band. Right up there with Rush, Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, The Doors, & Pink Floyd.

Old 60s and 70s songs getting animated music videos in the 21st century is really cool.

I had the privilege of seeing Jethro Tull perform while promoting this album at Cobo Hall (Detroit) in 1971. Phew!

One of the most underrated bands of all-time. They get relegated to second-tier by too many people. Tull was top-tier all the way.
