Looking for a lower cost of living? If so, you’re not alone. Many Americans want to move to states with lower taxes.

Because of the wide variety of taxes at the state and local level, however, figuring out where you’ll pay less can be harder than it seems.

One recent report crunched all the numbers to find out which states have the highest and lowest overall tax burdens. The result: New Yorkers get hit harder by the taxman than the citizens of any other state, while Alaskans bear the lowest overall burden.

Did your state make the top 5? Or the bottom 5? Our new Kite & Key Short reveals which parts of America end up having the highest tax bills — and which have the lowest.

As a contrast to this video it would be good to compare the standard of living of the top 5 and lower 5. Is there a difference in what taxpayers are getting for their money… or not?

I think some of these calculations are odd. You never stated the income level that this was based on. Also the type of person whether a homebody or out in the town results in highly different amounts of money going to taxes.
