Sea Of Galilee, A Large Freshwater Lake, Situated In Northeast Israel. Covering Approximately 166.7 Square Kilometers In Total Surface Area, It Is The Largest Freshwater Lake In Israel.
Also Known As Lake Tiberias Or Lake Kinneret,the Sea Of Galilee, Is Located Approximately 209 Meters (686 Feet) Below Sea Level, Making It The Lowest Freshwater Lake On Earth By Elevation And The Second-lowest Lake In The World After The Dead Sea, A Saltwater Lake Situated 105 Km South Of Sea Of Galilee.
Sea Of Galilee Maximum Length Is 21 Km, While Its Maximum Width Is 13 Km. It Is Relatively Shallow Body Of Water, With An Average Depth Of Around 25 Meters (82 Feet) And A Maximum Depth Of About 43 Meters (141 Feet).the Dead Sea Lies In The Jordan Rift Valley, On The Tectonic Plate Boundary Of The African Plate And The Arabian Plate.
The Lake Is Fed By Underground Springs And Streams That Flows Into The Lake From The Hills Of Galilee, But Its Main Source Of Water Is The Jordan River, Which Flows Into The Lake From The North And Exists It From The South, Ending Its Journey Into The Dead Sea.
Sea Of Galilee Is One Of Israel’s Main Source Of Freshwater. The Lake Has A Water Volume Of About Four Cubic Kilometers. The National Water Carrier Of Israel Transfers Water From The Sea Of Galilee To The Highly Populated Areas Of The Country. At Present, It Is Estimated That The Sea Of Galilee Supplies About 10% Of The Total Drinking Water Needs Of The Country.
Tiberias Is The Most Populous City Situated On The Sea Of Galilee, It Has A Population Of Roughly 50,000 Inhabitants. Other Major Towns Include Capernaum, Magdala, And Ginosar.
