Unpaid internships are just legacy admissions with extra steps. Unpaid internships are just untenable slavery. The point of it is to give the illusion of legitimacy and meritocracy. The only ones who could afford to do an unpaid internship are people from rich families who will pay for their needs anyways. Thus, it acts as an avenue for an executive to get their kid hired via unpaid internship and from there, landing them a job becomes nothing more than a formality. Unpaid internships are a classist way to discriminate against the poor and middle class. .
