Part 1 of a 3 part series in which I walk you step-by-step through my process of trying to repair my pool pump. In this video, I walk you through removing the pool pump and motor from the system.

Tune into Part 2 where I walk through taking apart the pump/motor piece by piece all the way down to the bearings and Part 3 where I put everything back together and talk about priming the pump!

It was a great pleasure to see a real repair and the problems as they happened. So few so called repair men show it HOW IT IS. They get to a difficult bit and low, the video jumps to the bit where they have got the brute appart. Thanks for your honesty.

Thank you for posting the videos and the information regarding the motor numbers and the model numbers that work. Thank you so much. Just saved myself a few hundred dollars, since I found the motor for 125 dollars shipped and I can install myself.

Thanks for the videos where it's about the pump motor and NOT about the guy doing the pump. ;) It was also nice not having to compete with trying to hear over some elevator to rap music while learning. Nice job!!! Off to video #2.

YEP THAT'S THE BEARINGS. ONE OF THE BEST PUMPS YOU CAN BUY! BEST OFF TO HAVE THE MOTOR REPAIRED BY A PRO. I CHARGE 75.00 AND THAT INCLUDES A FREE SHAFT SEAL. DO NOT TOUCH THE 4 9/16 BOLTS (EVER).. GOOD INFO BEST VIDEO I HAVE SEEN YET !. NO POLARITY ON SINGLE SPEED, GREEN WIRE GOES TO MOTOR GROUND ABOUT 1 O-CLOCK USUALLY A GREEN SCREW.. BUT ON 2 SPEED MOTOR IT'S A MUST TO TAKE NOTE OF THE WIRE PLACEMENT !!!.. Jay the pool pump motor repair guy in longwood Florida the guy who presses bearings on

I recommend not taking off the ground wires until the hot wire is disconnected. Also you should go to the main breaker panel to shut off the power 230volts with that kind of current will kill you. Also don't count on the thing to be wired correctly; I have found live voltage on ground wires before. You should never use both hands while disconnecting wires (you are completing the circuit thru your chest).

I had something similar happen. I ended up doing a couple of things to fix separate issues. I disconnected the motor from the rest of the pool, took everything off down to the seal plate but left the motor connected to the electrical box. I then tried to start the motor. The first issue was that the starter switch wasn't coming into proper contact with the top of the shaft. The other issue was that I hadn't tightened the impeller enough and thus it wasn't allowing the shaft to even turn.

Thanks for the tips and the nice comments. Video #2 is in the final editing stage. I'm curious on your comment on do not touch the 4 9/16'' bolts. Most videos I've seen remove these to replace the shaft seal. Perhaps I could see getting around this, however I do not see any way with the lock nut to get around this when replacing the bearings. What is the exact issue you are trying to avoid here?

it can happen with lightning strikes or by water damage, a new motor can be damaged in about 3 month do to water damage, it contaminates the grease in the front bearing, most common cause is starving the pump for water, this damages the shaft seal.

So ..that metal round clamp is what holds the motor togather with the rest of the machine ?? I thought i had to unscrew the 2 bolts underneath as well ...

Great video.... did you remove the "drain plugs" before splitting the housing?
