The owner of 11 buildings didn't waste a minute to hand out rent increases like candy to every tenant, all effective January 1, 2022. He can't keep the buildings maintained but he can cash rent cheques and push out rent increase notices easy enough to fund his fancy backyard NHL arena. As stated below, long term good tenants are no longer desirable or respected by building owners.

Remember, Doug Ford voted against rent control.

You don’t have to live there. You are living in someone else’s home it is not yours.

4.2% increase? lol. Try 20-30% rent increase in many parts of the US.

In the same situation in Ottawa. This needs to stop. There's no way that people working in this country should worry about housing and food! It's both stressful and sad.

Long term tenants used to be respected by landlords, now they are a nuisance and get in their way of maximizing profits. Even though most landlords property management companies raised the rents the maximum allowable every year, thanks to real estate being such a great investment and property values skyrocketing in the last 10 years, it is just too attractive and easy for landlords to find loopholes in the tenancy acts to raise rents above guidelines or evict for renovations. $2, 500.00 for a one bedroom apartment is considered normal in Toronto and Vancouver.

Yeah that's why we're moving. Our rent is way too high, meanwhile our pay has stayed the same.

if the massive increase of inflation cost the business more to operate, the increase gets passed on to the consumer.

I've always said, "our leaders & politicans cater to the lobbyist & interest group's leaving those without a voice to defend for themselves". Too many deals made from under the table, wonder why politicans all of sudden become millionaires, & trust me it's not because of hard work.😥🤑

You killed private landlords with robbing rents during the moratorium. Now you all pay the price. No one cried for us landlords so dont expect mercy when you robbed us.

+I guess if you moved in with your neighbor, then maybe you could afford the rent. Shove more people into smaller places. Sounds like China.
