I wonder to what extent these negative adaptations (LVH, tachycardia etc) are just chronic electrolyte imblance? Most endurance athletes based on sweat loss ought to be consuming 20g or so of salt a day to replace what they actually lose, or even 30-40g if racing in 30+ heat, but few if any do. The stress on their kidneys of trying to retain enough sodium and draw it from the bones etc would cause both of those issues...
