The Force Awakens: "The Copy of My ANH, with no New Jedi Order, no New Spaceships, no Republic, and somehow Rebels VS Empire all over again. Wait, why Han, Leia, and Luke did not reunite in a scene?"

The Last Jedi: "Visuals in the movie look gorgeous, but there's no way Luke tried to murder his nephew in his sleep."

The Rise Of Skywalker: "How come the Scavenger girl from A New-- Oh wait, The Force Awakens suddenly is a Palpatine and now becomes Skywalker? You cannot be a Skywalker if you buried Anakin's lightsaber in the sand of Tatoii- Oh shit, Anakin is not even in the sequels, just some voices from the sky I don't know."

What if George would have directed 7 8 9, before even going to the Prequels. He could have gone straight into 7 soon after 6 even if after 10 years or something, and then at least you can still feature Carrie, Harrison, and Mark for at least a few of the films. Then do Prequels later, like now, and it doesn't matter who you cast, because its all different characters for prequel story anyways

the problem with the sequels is that they copied the overall plot of the OT but completely changed the character growth which is the opposite of what the prequels did. The prequels and OT focus on 2 very different conflicts, both have jedi and sith at their heart but the overall fight is different. The prequels is about 2 opposing sides at war, both with loads of resources and troops and the jedi order is at its highest whereas the OT is a rebellion where the jedi are gone and they face the threat of a galactic empire.

If you look at Anakin and Luke's growth in power though, they mirror each other. Both in their first films of their trilogies defeat the enemy with their existing skills (piloting). We don't see Anakin or Luke wield the force or a lightsaber until the second films of their trilogies after they have received some training and both of them lose an arm in a lightsaber fight. Then in their 3rd films we see them overcome their adversaries and reach their potential (Anakin then proceeds to become a sith but thats besides the point). We get to see them progress in a way that makes sense, witness as they slowly become powerful jedi. In a way the audience feels proud of them, satisfied to have followed these characters on their journey.

Rey though by the end of the first film has proven herself to be a skilled pilot, mechanic (which is fine, those are her existing skills) but then proceeds to use the force multiple times with no training, doing a jedi mind trick (which are not easy to do even with training) and then uses telekinesis and defeats the main villain of TFA in a lightsaber fight. Where is she supposed to go from there. To try and show her growth in power they had to then give her crazy powers with no training like force lightning and healing which was just ridiculous. If they held back in TFA, Rey could have been a great character, if they showed her learning to wield a lightsaber and use the force in her second film with training from Luke, atleast then the story would be bearable and they could avoid giving her crazy abilities as she could progress and learn to use the more standard force techniques.

This defiantly wouldn't fix the sequels as the story is just a copy of the OT but poorly executed but atleast Rey would no longer be annoyingly overpowered.

IMO cannon is what we as fans all or mostly agree on, so if we don’t accept the sequel trilogy as cannon then it isn’t . If AI makes a better sequel trilogy and we all love it. Then it’s cannon . The Books are cannon til something better comes.
