The southwestern corner of Lānaʻi is a unique place. It is a vey scenic area. Lānaʻi used to have the biggest pineapple farm in the world, but production pretty much stopped in the early 1990s.

The Kaumalapua Harbor is the main commercial harbor on the island. The original breakwater was built by James Dole in the 1920s. From this location you will have an excellent view of the high sea cliffs. It is also a great spot for watching the sunset.

The Lānaʻi Cat Sanctuary rescues cats from allover the island and give them a home with food and shelter.

Right by the ocean you have the prehistoric and well preserved Kaunolū fishing village. The king Kamehamea I used to stay there for fishing. So did his Maui rival Kahekili. The ocean just outside the village is very rich in all kind of sealife. Whales are frequently seen there in the winter and spring time. Just above the gulch you will see the Halulu Heiau (temple) and right next it you have the incredible Kahekili's Leap. It is a notch in the cliff. It is said that Kahekili asked his warriers to jump of the cliff to show courage.

Thanks for this fantastic video. You explain all that nature so well. Have not been to Lanai so I enjoyed your adventure of the island. Your camera work is so perfect. Also loved your Molokai videos.

Thank for the filming of Kaunolu, the kings favorite fishing spot and also a village of refuge. Archeologist Kenneth Emory who studied this place for the Bishop Museum in Honolulu was my godfathers uncle.

Great video. I am glad I found your channel. The black plastic was used in the pineapple fields years ago to stop the weeds.

Hello and thank you for your short imformative videos which are very useful for a future trip to Hawaii. Is it difficult to get around the islands?Im very interested in a relaxed long mini-vacation to Molokai especially it looks so tranquil and unique place, so hard to find a place without McDonalds, Malls, Walmart, Marriott, 7/11 and all that
