1st the buildings he was showing was NOT the San Antonio State Hospital. Those buildings were the San Antonio Juvenile Detention Center. Also, they knocked down those buildings down years ago. And if someone would like to go and check it out for their self. The old Juvenile Detention Center is off Farm road by me If you are going to do a story make sure you know what you are talking about and the right buildings. The old State Hospital is off South Presa St. and New Braunfels.

My grandmother was put there in the late 1950s. Luckily she was very quiet. I remember visiting her and they were administering shock treatment to someone who didn't want it. The patient broke out of the room screaming and was dragged back in. I was 10.

Now those same type of patients live on the streets. “Homeless” Good job America

Those pictures aren't the State Hospital. Which still exists btw. They've been slowly replacing the old hospital buildings with a new hospital campus on the same spot. I did my psych rotation there in nursing school in the late 80's.

We used to go here and jump the gates as teenagers. We would jump the fence and walk around in there in the early 2000’s. it was always around midnight. there is a correctional facility next to it. We would go in there and there was still a lot of stretchers and equipment in the buildings but all the glass in the windows had been broken out some of the floors were falling apart. There is a slide on the second floor for trash that we slide down to exit the building. We ended up getting chased out by the security of the correction facility next door. It’s actually pretty close to were the infamous bus was hit by a train with children. This area in San Antonio has a lot of eerie history and you can actually feel it at night when you go around there. It just has a very ominous presence about it. Idk if it’s actually still standing I thought they tore it down but it’s been decades since I went over there.

It used to be called 50-50 S. Presa back in the day. If you found a loony loose, you picked them up and took them to the office. They'd pay you $50.

Thank you for sharing. We can't deny our history, we must learn from our history. In fear we will repeat our history.

We need a mental health overhaul. Reopen mental hospitals with proper protections for patients and with the most up to date treatment methods.

San Antonio has now updated the name of the building from Insane Asylum to the more acceptable 'City Hall'.

I went to SASH for my OT mental health fieldwork… that is not the building. Additionally, they had completed building a new hospital for all the patients to be in one building and they moved a couple of months ago. It’s a beautiful building, I hope it’s better now for these amazing people.

This was a psyc ward. at the end of this little road, off Southton Rd. They are a worn abandoned mint green color. Used to be only pasture in each side except for right across it an old couple lived. Many teens on the 90s found it a cool abandoned place to sneak into to do drugs. It was opened and set back from the road in the pitch dark. The old couple would often shoot that way to get them to leave. Later the woods were cleared and a juvenile, Krier Correctional facility was built. They now have gated it for no trespassing. Which is what you see on the video.
It's a creepy place. We grew up on Southton Rd not even a mile from it. In fact this is a nightmare of a place for me. I was molested as a child and this was the very evil cold chilling place "he" took me often. It still haunts me today.

My parents admitted me in their new location in 2007/2008. I was there for months for running away. By the time I left, they had me prescribed on over 20 different medicines. They began electroshock therapy on me after I tried to make a complaint against the male workers for grabbing me. I was 14 turning 15 at the time. I discovered about two years ago that it is illegal in texas to do shock therapy on people under 16, & 16+ requires parental consent. I asked my mom and she never knew about any of it. It took me over a decade to heal. They may not be in the old locations or performing lobotomy anymore, but they still do really sick shit behind their walls.

A bit of history, I went to Jr High School, Hot Wells, just outside the gate of the Hospital. The street running on the side of the Hospital in currently South Presa, but in the early days the street was called Asylum Road. Asylum was another word for Insane.

Sheesh. I always thought that the state asylums were some of the most horrific places in history.

San Antonio is one big experiment broken up into mini experiments. Just take a pause when you are driving through the many different areas.

Well I WAS excited about this channel . Except now I fear it’s misinformation . I not only KNOW that’s the old TYC but also I spent 5 YEARS next door ( literally 500 yards ) at CTKJTF . This is NOT the state hospital
