How to aggregate data in SPSS (Data Aggregation)

In this video, I show how data aggregation is done in SPSS. Data aggregation is used when there is a need to change the unit of analysis from, let's say, individual level to firm level. Or, in science research, one phenomenon may require multiple observations per subject and thus aggregation may be needed. However, before aggregating the data, we might first want to check inter-rater reliability and inter-rater agreement. For more on this please refer to James (1984) and James (1993).

PS: Sorry about a few squeaks!

This video was excellent! I'm writing a research proposal and needed to explain in the data analysis section how I plan to disaggregate the data by race, gender and language spoken at home. This video was clear and concise, thank you!

Hi, glad the video helped. As I understand, you are left with only 20 cases now (which could be 20 organizations you collected data from). In most situations significance issues will occur, however it must be noted that your unit of analysis now is "organization". Unless you have some strong support from literature suggesting that surveying as small a number as 20 organizations is acceptable, I suggest you collect data from more firms.

Thank you sir for the video. It helped a lot with teaching me about aggregator variable in SPSS. If you have more videos, I plan to watch them. :)

Dear Muzamil, thanks for your response. I mean the multilevel linear models using data with two or three levels, e.g., regional, organizational and individual levels. Hope I make it clear. Thank you.

That will also make the results more generalisable. I hope this gives you some idea. PS: my video uses hypothetical data.

Thanks! It's very useful for me. And btw what the use of inter-rater reability and inter-rater agreement? And how to check that? I found that in your note below.

Thank you very much, Muzamil. I was grappling with that. Should the data be first sorted by the break variable?

Dear Muzamil, thank you so much. This is very helpful.

Are you interested in preparing a video regarding how to conduct multilevel analysis with SPSS? Thank you. Mike
