Samsung 980 PRO vs. 970 EVO Plus (500 GB)

Показать описание
With Samsung releasing PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drive testing one and comparing it with his younger Gen 3 brother 970 EVO Plus I've been using for the last 8 months was an obvious way to go.
0:00 We have to begin somewhere
0:47 We need data, lots of data
1:26 CrystalDiskMark in PCIe Gen. 4.0
1:39 CrystalDiskMark in PCIe Gen. 3.0
1:53 CrystalDiskMark Real World Performance
2:04 Aja write test, 980 PRO
4:24 Aja write test, 970 EVO Plus
6:00 Mine cashe is bigger than yours
6:19 Conclusion
Drives tested:
- Samsung 980 PRO 500 GB,
- Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 500 GB.
Tests are done on a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite & Ryzen 3700X and both drives were having passive heatsinks.
I hope all those terabytes written on these drives may help you in some way if you wonder what NVMe drive to get for your machine.
Samsung 980 PRO is compared with 970 EVO Plus because with the switch from 2-bit NAND (previously known as MLC but TLC and QLC are by definition Multi-Level Cell too) to 3-bit NAND 980 PRO is, in my opinion, essentially the Gen 4 NVMe evolution of 970 EVO Plus.
If you need bigger drive versions they come with 1 GB of Ram instead of 512 GB, have bigger SLC cashe (6 GB instead of 4) and have faster write TLC speeds when cashe is full.
* In table I misplaced names of the controllers, Phoenix drives 970 EVO Plus and Elpis 980 PRO.
