'What is a Status Conference in front of the judge?'

Whether your case is small or large -- in federal or state court -- at some point there will likely be a "status conference."

What is it and what do you need to do?

Basically, the judge wants to see the lawyers (occasionally the clients also) and the judge is literally looking for an update on the status of the case.

How are things going?

Any problems?

When will it be ready for trial?

Etc.

If you have a lawyer, normally you don't need to do anything (ask your lawyer). But if you don't have a lawyer, you will need to be there and be prepared to discuss the case. It helps to know your judge -- some want about 30 seconds and some want to spend an hour.
