Spoiler-free review of A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

A landmark volume in science writing by one of the great minds of our time, Stephen Hawking’s book explores such profound questions as: How did the universe begin—and what made its start possible? Does time always flow forward? Is the universe unending—or are there boundaries? Are there other dimensions in space? What will happen when it all ends?

Wow you make this book sound fascinating! I can’t believe it was on the best seller list for 5 years, that’s pretty insane. And funny once you add that most people buy it and don’t read it. And No, I didn’t know celestial turtles were a thing 😂😂

As a child, I remember reading about the earth being dirt that was piled on the back of a turtle in Native American mythology. Wikipedia says it is Iroquois and Lenape mythology.

I've bought the book last year and haven't picked it up yet^^ I think it may well be another year until I try, but overall I'm very interested! I#ve got some scientific backround by studying chemistry and biology at uni, but physics was always was my weakest subject in school...as well as gym class ;D
Thanks for this awesome review! Xx

I read this when I was 8 or 9 but I lent it to a friend once back in secondary school and haven't seen it since. I've been contemplating vaguely ever after about whether to buy the book again. Since then physics, mathematics, and science, in general, have been my life. If anyone has any questions about physics and cosmology I'll be happy to respond.

I really enjoyed this video. I'm still reading this book but you gave me ideas that I almost forgot so thank you for reminding me!

Ohhh I never thought about why John Green named his book the way he did, but now it makes sense! I never made the connection. I really liked this book too. The only thing I had problems with was the string theory... it confuses me. 😅 When you said "in a nutshell" I was like.. oh I have that book too, but I realized you just said that like that. If you are interested in reading The universe in a nutshell let me know, I'd be interested in a buddyread. 😊

I was not able to grasp it. I'm almost half through, and I'm planning to read the whole thing, in hope of coming across clear and understandable pieces of information and wisdom.

I think the universe is infinite.. I believe that our “universal horizon” that physicists talk about is just where light hasn’t reached us yet. Or we just need better telescopes to see farther. Just because we can’t see any farther doesn’t mean the universe ends..

Does he talk about dark matter, dark energy, quantum gravity, & my favorite, spooky action at a distance?
Hope your fav tiny kick boxer is not taking it out too much on his fav opponent. :-)

She changed it from a tortoise to turtles? I may need to rethink my commitment to this whole "turtles all the way down" belief.
