I grew up in Long Beach from 1980-1997 then left to join the Army. I will tell you this, for those of us that grew up there, The Queen Mary has and will aways have a SPECIAL place in our hearts for her. It is truly an honor to have a ship like her the last of her kind and all that she did in her service years, docked and resting at peace in a city that truly loves her. We need to do whatever it takes to preserve her for our children to appreciate her and that time in history. When you tour her it IS truly breath taking and worth every dollar. I plan on soon taking my family back there and finally getting a hotel room to experience that as well. Big trip from Michigan!

As a war baby (son of a Canadian soldier and my British mother) Mom and I came over on the Queen Mary arriving in Halifax in August, 1946. Still have the landing card.

My dad was an American GI who served during WWII. In 1943 the Queen Mary transported him from NY to Scotland, and it was a magnificent experience for him. I grew up on his fascinating stories of this era of his life and love learning about this amazing ocean liner that was such an integral part of the war effort. I hope I can visit it one day…as it would almost be like a pilgrimage to me! I enjoyed this documentary, and just wish that my dad was still here to watch it, as well.

Beautiful documentary. I had the pleasure to visit the ship a few months back, I spent the entire Saturday on it, just walking around the ship, also taking the guided full tour. A once in a lifetime experience for me.

Visited RMS Queen Mary about 10 years ago and snuck past a few velvet ropes to see a few things most tourists wouldn't see. Had an overpriced lunch of second-class oysters, but the service was excellent and the decor made up for the quality of the food.

I am retired from the merchant navy; drove tugboats up and down the east coast of the U.S. and had the opportunity to put the QE-II into dock in NYC a few years before she was retired, as well as the sad task of tail-steering the USS Intrepid on her last trip from Norfolk Navy Yard to the breakers' yard down the Southern Branch. There is nothing sadder than to see a brave old ship gutted for her brass...so glad that hasn't happened to Queen Mary.

The film was released in 1994. It is confirmed with the hommage to the during making of the film deseased Captain John Treasure Jones RD, (15 August 1905 – 12 May 1993). John Treasure Jones was a British sea officer who became a well-known media figure in the mid-1960s following his appointment as the last master of the Cunard liner, RMS Queen Mary.

My family stayed on the Queen Mary in september 2019. She is a glorious landmark of an era and has to be seen if you visit the area. /Best wishes from Sweden.

I live in Huntington Beach California, 12 to 15 miles by road to the Queen Mary. While in the US Navy aboard USS Chicago CG11, in early 1972 we came into Hong Kong harbor for R&R and there I saw Queen Elizabeth Burned Out and laying on her side. I must say I have seen them both. Thank you for this Excellent presentation, Mark.

Ive been aboard twice, the first time on a Halloween. The second time, i rented a room. That first day, i met an elderly gent on the stern. I asked him if hed been aboard before, and he said "no, but I've been under her". He'd been a crewman on the warship the QM ran down!

To us in Poland the Queen is partially known through my several articles written on her from 1986. Poland is home country and Gdynia - home port to our liners, that made our white and red flag recognizable to the rest of the World, and simply loved by many people. The Queen Mary made 1001 Atlantic crossings and alone shortened the war by six months. Our Batory DID carry once a big Syrian brown bear on board - a mascot and a soldier (!) of one Polish troop during WW2. He had military rank of corporal and was called Wojtek (our abbreviation of the name of Adalbert). Now I am Wojciech myself, bearing the bear's full name proudly, liking all bears and well up in the maritime history of Poland, which shall be 105 years long in 2025. All the best to 'Mary', to Long Beach, to Southampton and to Clydebank (important places of the Queen her life), and birthday greetings for her 90 years afloat (26.05.1934-2024) ♍🇵🇱🇬🇧🇺🇲❤️

Back when they actually gave a crap about the queen mary as a piece of history and not just a amusement attraction.

Hi, and thanks for this excellent work showing my favourite liner. Actually second only to our 'Batory', that only transatlantic liner ever to carry aboard one Syrian brown bear! The bear was a regular soldier of one of Polish 2nd Corps' troops, with the rank of corporal and the name of Wojtek. Which is my name too. Long live to Her Majesty for her 90th birthday (26th of Sep. 1934-2024) ♍🇵🇱🇬🇧🇺🇲👍 Just to add something of interest - I am the man who 'introduced' Her Majesty to Polish people in 1986. ♍
