Lunar Lake Core Ultra 258V Laptop Gets a Major Graphics Power Boost!

In this video we added a powerful Graphics card to this new Lunar lake powered laptop and the results are pretty wild! This isn the new ASUS Zenbook S14 powered by the Intel Core Ultra 258V, by its self the new 140V iGPU is great but i needed a bit more in docked mode so we deciced to see how well lunar lake works with a Thunderbolt 4/ USB4 eGPU like the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Ti Super. we also see is an older Thunderbolt 3 GPU dock and do the job or not.

Ahh this channel is a gem for me as I am new to the eGPU build to my newly bought Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with Core Ultra 7 258.
I was debating whether to return my laptop and to buy a mini PC with oculink or buy a graphics card dock with USb 4 and connect it to my laptop.
Now I know I will just be getting a dock with USB 4 support to get the most out of the graphics card. I got a second hand Radeon 7900 XTX for cheap.
That should give me some great gaming experiences.

The thunderbolt cables make a diffirence i get good fps on a old laptop with a 4060lp

Seeing higher CPU usage than GPU usage in half the titles at 1440p shows its not meant for this... Great video, thanks for the info. I'd stick with Meteor Lake or Hawk/Strix Point if you're into gaming.

So this cpu 258V is 3nm process but max memory is 32GB, and no Vulkan support just OpenGL? Nice to see Intel is offering us an alternative. Obviously this Laptop is not a high end gaming laptop but has some potential, too bad they don't have a Oculink port but that would bump the price a tiny bit more.

Nice review which confirm once again that industry needs full PCIE connection port for the eGPUs which r becoming very popular for stationary gaming in combination of mobile "on the go" use.

I think that your choice of game is the most demanding for this kind of test because PS5 game adaptations are the most consuming in PCIe bandwidth so in the end a very good choice to test this kind of eGPU.
But I think that recalling the performance of the 4070 card in PCIe 4 16X connection would be an interesting indication.

Cool! I have been wondering about external GPU performance on these compared to other chips too. Which one actually has the best CPU performance without influence of the internal GPU? Could you please test other laptops with the newer AMD chips too, to compare against the Intel Core Ultra chips using the external GPU? Thanks!

4:22 - 4:51 you should've switched the footage, I would've thought that the left one with 102 fps average is using USB 4, because you were comparing USB 4 speed at the left and TB3 to the right side before the benchmark. It's all good though, just gave me a little confusion looking at them at first

I think this is something you use if you have an extra GPU lying around or you can get a good one for cheap.

Really hate how eta does not show any form of benchmark basis to know if these results are good or bad vs something like an AMD. You have this data, why not yake the extra 10 min and make some comaprison graphs? You literally benchmark the same games in every video.

Tb3 is not slower than usb4/tb4. Maybe there is an issue with your older device's hardware, firmware, or driver that is causing performance degradation.
