I read this randomized controlled study "Effect of berberine administration on metabolic syndrome, insulin sensitivity, and insulin secretion" that showed that"Administration of berberine leads to remission of metabolic syndrome and decreases in waist circumference, SBP, triglycerides, and total insulin secretion, with an increase in insulin sensitivity". So, it appears that berberine doesn't increase insulin secretion. Another study showed that "Berberine induces GLP-1 secretion through activation of bitter taste receptor pathways".

I tested as prediabetic twice in 2021 and my dr just dismissed that i had all the symptoms of insulin resistance, so i began taking bererine on my own (since i wasnt put on any pharmas to help) and its helped a lot.

I have just found your channel and I I have type 2 Diabetes. I am always interested in what I can do to continue working on my diagnosis. It's really changed my way of life and has made it not too fun. So much that we do traditionally involves food, when we gather with friends and family. I don't know much about Diabetes but I want to learn. Thanks so much for this lesson. Could be life changing.

This is a big surprise! Berberine occurs in Mahonia aquifolium, Oregon's state flower the Oregon grape. Native Americans used parts of the plant medicinally but those parts of the plants have been considered to be fairly toxic. The berries are edible but generally unpleasant. The roots bleed yellow when dug up. Roots, bark and berries can be used to make a variety of dyes ranging from yellow to purple.

Thanks for the great video. I have pre diabetes and have used Berberine, and it works. The only side effects I've seen are constipation and it lowers iron. I became anemic and figured out Berberine was contributing to it. I still take Berberine every once in a while, but use bitter melon, amla and other things most of the time.

If you mix it with Metformin there is a synergist effect, especially if mixed with tummeric and sage, and can lower blood sugar very low. It also becomes cardiotoxic if mixed with statins.

As an antibiotic it is a mild antibiotic, but the value in it is it destroys the biofilm making other antibiotics more effective

Very excited for the series. Especially interested on effects on the kidney, as I have had problems (genetic predisposition to PCKD). Also wondering about Vit D effects on kidney - I've read conflicting info. THANK YOU Dr Been!
