335d m57 knocking sound from top of engine

I think it’s an injector. There’s a stumble when it starts now, that was never there up until recently. It sounds like it’s coming from the top of the engine. Vacuum pump is removed in this video, I wanted to rule that out. It gets a little better as it warms up. Any ideas?

So what was the exact problem and how did you fix it? Was it the harmonic balancer or the main bearing?

I have the same exact noise but strangely enough only when the car is hot. No noise at all when it’s cold. You go for a drive, park it and the noise is there. Let it sit for an hour, start it up again and no noise. Thoughts?

Hey Idk if you still respond but I have the same kinda sound coming from my M57 have owned it for a year and do oil changes every 5k miles the car don’t knock when you first start it up but after like 5-10 mins you can hear it you can’t hear it in the car when you’re driving and the knock didn’t start till I got bad gas I wanna hope it’s a injector knock but i’m not so sure I can’t pinpoint the sound it sounds like it’s coming from the middle of the engine like yours but i’ve drained the oil and cut open the filter and both oil and filter are super clean with no fragments in either. Just don’t know how to test for injector knocking on these cars also I took the A/C belt off and it still knocked so wasn’t compressor and took the harmonic balancer belt off and it still knocked but never had the knock till the night I got shitty diesel

Just bought a 335d drove it 300 miles and it had a rod knock wity metal in the oil filter.

Did you need to replace turbos or any other auxiliaries?

Vacuum line taken off the vacuum pump will make that noise. As seen in the video.

I have this exact noise and I replaced my harmonic balancer a few days ago. Maybe defective or I didn't torque it down good enough
