Why Jesus Calmed the Storm: The Mark Series pt 15 (4:35-41)

I've heard whole Bible studies through the passage where Jesus calms the storm where the teacher fails to identify a key point in it. When Jesus commanded the storm to cease it revealed something of the divinity of Jesus that had the apostles in awe and reverence for Jesus in a whole new way. Even though they had previously seen Jesus cast out demons and heal the sick, this act of commanding a storm to stop meant something to these first century Jews which is often overlooked by people today.

"Go from being in awe of how bad situations are, to being in awe of how amazing God is, and His goodness."

Love your closing lines. Praise God He is so good!

*“Even if he doesn’t” is the story of my life and I am a testimony that God can and will. My attitude is even if he doesn’t.... yet will I trust him.”*

Honestly, i never saw this passage like the storm only. I always saw it as trusting Jesus. To anchor your faith on Jesus. Coz he will always be with you. As long as you’re with him, as he is always with you, you’d be fine.

I got rid of all my old idols. I want god to be my comfort. My depression is really bad right now and I’m afraid I will give up. I need to have faith I will come out of this.

This message came right in time. I am a guest speaker at a women's event in two days. God placed this message in my heart. I just needed a fresh understanding, and God gave me this video. Thank you so much. You are a blessing.❤

Psalm 43:5
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Mike. I welcomed Christ back into my life officially this past June, and your channel has been a huge help to me.

My father-in-law, a great pastor while he served on this earth, preached several messages from these same verses. One was having faith in God to see you through in what He has called you to do. The second was how Jesus rebuked the wind, not the waves, not the storm clouds, etc. Jesus rebuked the direct cause of the tempest. We often look at everything wrong in our lives but don’t address the root cause; either out our own ignorance, or by not seeking God’s will. These stories in the Bible always have several points in the messages that will preach. Another great teaching for my Monday.

"Trusting in who in the middle of the what. You're never going to out grow this lesson." Thank you Pastor Mike. This reminds me of Abraham and Jacob how it took them a lifetime to learn to trust in God. But God is faithful and patient with us and I'm so thankful for that.

I've struggled with this passage since I was really young - I never understood how Jesus going to sleep was supposed to make me feel better. Over time I just pushed that to the back of my mind since I guess that's what I supposed to believe. This message just completely opened my eyes. Thank you, Mike, this was really beautiful.

Convenient this pops up after the unfortunate Hurricanes going through. Seeing a lot of "decreeing and comanding" of the Hurricanes to flea and dissipate because Jesus did it, so, so can
Thank you for always keeping the Scriptures pure and holy in their true contextual meaning🙏

Thanks Mike for keeping the main thing the main thing - The Holy Spirit's intent of the passage is always the best point of the sermon.

I really needed to hear this. I have been suffering from chronic fatigue for about a year, and it was finally narrowed down to a pre-leukemia issue. My bone marrow is just not producing enough red or white cells or platelets. Tomorrow, I have a counseling session on the chemotherapy treatments I will be undergoing, and for the rest of about a month, once I start treatment, things will be pretty rough. I am NOT looking forward to it! But I know God's hand is in this for his glory. I may not "feel" this way in a few weeks (!), but hearing this has made my faith stronger. I believe in healing, and ask for your prayers for it, but I also believe in God using trained physicians to do their God-ordained work as well. I am committed to trusting him no matter what. Thanks to my brother Mike and God Almighty for this important and timely message!
And no, I don't think God "gave" me this! Life happens; the question is, "Who do you trust in the end?"

This teaching goes along with what I was taught about the faith of Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednigo from the book of Daniel. There is the faith that says Father can. Then there is the faith that says Father will. The faith of these guys was "even if Father doesn't we will still trust in Him". I want the faith of these guys. Thank you, pastor Mike, for reminding me of this. I also heard a sermon based on the passage about "mustard seed" faith from Matthew 17:20.

Wow- I love how Jesus came and did things that the Old Testament said only God could do. He clearly showed His deity. He knew the scriptures and did all those things on purpose.
