EKWB 4090 FE WATERBLOCK: RTX 4090 FE TEARDOWN, WATERBLOCK INSTALL, AND TEMP DELTA CHECK

Показать описание
In this video I go over the EKWB RTX 4090 FE waterblock, tear down of the 4090 FE, install the waterblock and a quick look at temps. Having the block in my build with 2x 480s I had similar delta but lower temps due to lower water temp.

Mispoke at @ 22:49 it is 31-32 degrees

0:00 - 3:36 Unbox and overview of contents for the block
3:36 - 14:00 4090 GPU TEARDOWN
14:01- 21:35 Waterblock Install
21:36 - 29:30 Test loop and temps

I actually prefer being sent a pre-assembled unit as you gain a bit of a familiarity with the product during disassembly. Great video and thanks for all the helpful tips. Will be doing my gigabyte gaming oc 4090 soon!

I just did the full cover EKWB water block with active back plate on my 4090 FE the other day for my new build. was easy and straight forward. Looks great as well.

Nice Vid, thank you for doing it, I wanted to check out the level of difficulty before ordering a block, this one seems to fit the bill.

Glad your works. My front and back set for my Strix 3090 was perfect (its now my brothers) my set for my 4090 however sprung a leak so I'm without my GPU at the moment. EKWB quality has gone down this year. I even had to clean debris out of a new EKWB pump where they never cleaned where they made the connections for the hose fittings.

Thank you very much for the instructions and tips, J C! Can't wait to install my EKWB ABP waterblock to my FE!

It’s an awesome block! Just got one installed on my 4090 the other day.

When I first saw your video I was kinda disappointed by this block and I decided to keep my card with the stock cooler… till yesterday. I bought and mounted the EK WB expecting some bad performance, considering you had your card hitting 61° with ~29° water temp, @STOCK running furmark which is a whooping 32° delta not 21/22 like you said in the video (but you got it rightish at the end while testing cyberpunk), but I was shocked by my results.

I didn’t test at stock only with my OC settings: +250 on core and +1500 on mem which gets me 3000 core and 12000 mem.

At 100% power limit and ~450w board power the card was hitting 48-49° with water temp at ~29-30 with a 18 delta. I tested again with power limit at 133%, max board power hitting ~520w and the card got to maximum 55° at 30° water temp, which is a 25° delta.

I think that your block was lacking a bit of pressure on the core, maybe the screws weren’t tightened enough to provide the correct amount of pressure or they provided the pads with the incorrect thickness. I kinda thinks is the first option though, cause I got the same problem with the 6900xt block. At that time I removed the backplate, I tightened a little more the 4 screws around the core and the card started running 5° cooler.

Excellent video, very informative. I have the same block but still have to install it. Can you describe a little more what to look for when you put the PCB on the block and then take it off again?

Hello, do you think the block contact is good? I see people reporting temps in the 40s/low 50s with x2 360 radiators with cpu and gpu in the loop and you are using a separate rad for just the GPU. How is the hotspot temp delta? Thanks. Just seems like air cooling temps with the water block.

so youre not one of those that screws the air cooler back together to keep track of the screws?

You have for 450w 76C Hot Spot. It's not cool. For example, with 4090 HOF and WB Biksky for 580w in 3dmark i have 66-68C temp of the Hot Spot

Looks beautiful, but given how little performance is gained, and the excellent temps on AC cards, I fail to see the point of WC this generation. I'll save myself the fuss, and I've been WC most of my cards in the last years. Especially since last gen I've started to UV my GPU, given the outrageous power prices in Europe.

I am looking forward to upgrading my EK cooled 9900K/1080Ti ITX system with a 4070Ti Strix OC'd to hell (providing EK make an acetal block). EK make such a nice-looking block in acetal, an absolute beauty.

Do you recommend barrow block for the 4090FE they recently released vs EK? Also what thermal pads are better than the stock ones here? Gelid extremes ?

in my experience these cards are way easier to cool than the 3090's, i have the 3090 gaming x trio with the evga 1000w bios and on the custom bykski active front and back block with kingpin kpx and ec360 silver pads on a 4 rad loop and that was sitting around 45-50 on silent fan speeds, now i got the 4090 gaming x trio on air and stock paste, which granted never really pulls above 400w but it's weirdly kind of the same temps on air as the 3090 on water, i'm honestly thinking about just putting LM on the waterblock and calling it a day this gen, these waterblock prices are way too cooked in relation to performance, which sounds dumb if we talk about a 4090 but still..
