TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the renowned author’s life as he finds friendship, courage and inspiration among a fellow group of writers and artists at school. Their brotherhood strengthens as they grow up and weather love and loss together, including Tolkien’s tumultuous courtship of his beloved Edith Bratt, until the outbreak of the First World War which threatens to tear their fellowship apart. All of these experiences would later inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.

Somehow I get the feeling that the movie is going to make Tolkien's writings seem like an allegory for the War.

Professor Tolkien is one of my favourite authors. One of the many reasons I became a teacher. I hope this movie delivers.

I really hope they show his life as a philologist (now known as a linguist), because that was a huge part of his life and he is renowned in the linguistic world as the grandfather of conlangs.

I REALLY don't want them to down play the fact that he was a devout Catholic, it was the reason behind him writing his legendarium. He called it a "fundamentally religious and Catholic work" to his mentor
