Easy low-tech aquarium carpet plant

One of my favourite aquarium plants, Staurogyne Repens.

This is a stem plant that can be used as a very low-tech, low maintenance carpet plant. I bought a small bunch of this, and since Iv planted it, its now grown into a lush carpet.

When I bought a ton of tissue cultures before, in a tank with hard water and without CO2 this is the only thing that survive and thrived. I learned my lesson now to put CO2 but yes, this plant is very hardy. I would suggest to get rid of the blue light if you don't want these growing compact, more on red and white if you want this very bushy.

I am growing to love this plant, starts off a bit slow mainly due to transitioning. But then once it starts to grow its sends runners everywhere and thickens up nicely without growing tall especially with good light and co2.

Beautiful carpet! I’m going to try this if the Marsilea doesn’t work out.

Marsilea is still the ultimate low tech carpet. I swear you can physically see them getting taller lol. UG can also exhibit mad growth without CO2 but would require good lighting.

I’m trying these plants again, I got a 20g long with a 30” nicrew SkyLed.

I plan to plant S. repens in sand with osmocote fertilizer beads at the roots.

very nice, I could never get s repens to grow like this without CO2. glosso and UG however carpeted well for me with just strong lighting

Star grass is also easy and lush green looking. When it really gets going? Just scissor it down to 2"..it will ramify and grow tight. If doing that once a week or every other week sounds like a bother, then it's not for you. Uncut it will turn into just another stem plant..but cut low is like a lawn..Star "grass".

I have star grass as groundcover..it was doing fantastic until the Rainbows started to enjoy the taste of it. I can't explain how for many months they ignored it and now you can watch them eat leaves in front of you.

I've ended up buying some of these. Looking very skinny at the moment but hopefully they fill out the space. Keep up the good work very much enjoy watching your vids.

Do you use sand or soil in your scape?

Hey buddy I have a question
Your substrate is just a sand which has no nutrition for plants?
So for nutrition you use root tabs right
