In Today's video Dr. Becky explains the differences between Trauma focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) to help individuals process and overcome trauma. Dr. Becky also discusses the pros and cons between both approaches.
Both approaches help individuals process the traumatic event, but Trauma focused CBT focuses on helping the client become desensitised to the event/ story through talking through the event, whereas EMDR is done using bilateral stimulation, through imagining the event.
EMDR is often a quicker approach than Trauma focused CBT, however, this does not always mean EMDR its most suitable for the client.
