1) Track your good habits. 2) Batch your related tasks together. 3) Shorten your to-do list. 4) Use the pomodoro technique. 5) Follow the two-minute rule: if it takes less than two minutes to do the task, do it then and there, rather than putting it off until later. 6) Give all meetings and conversations a hard stop. 7) Create a visual map for your goals, with rewards at certain milestones.

I cannot thank TFD enough for its existence. I’m so much calmer than I would’ve been if I weren’t on top of my finances. Thank you ladies for being a guide for a very lost 24 year old and turning her into a more secure 27-year-old lady.

I used to get incredibly overwhelmed in high school and college because I always over-exerted myself and didn’t have any time management/self-help skills in place. It wasn’t until I reached my breaking point that I started to adopt some of these practices and I can assure you that these are very helpful methods!

The pomodoro technique works really well for really long boring tasks - cleaning out closets, organizing papers, reorganizing kitchen cabinets and such. Those things feel compelled to push to completion while getting exhausted. The pomodoro technique gives you breaks while keeping the focus. I had a box full of papers from a move - both trash and important documents - I kept in a closet for years. I used pomodoro to get through it in a weekend.

Could there be a finantial diet podcast? So we could listen while cleaning up or doing the dishes? 😁

Lots of these tricks are techniques I was taught as options to do during an ADHD executive function class! Not all techniques work for everyone because I find that my productivity brain works best when in "flow"/hyper-focused, so the pomodoro method doesn't work the best for me, but that's the great thing about variety of techniques/options! Try some, see which work best for you and don't beat yourself up about tricks and skills that work better for different brains!

the pomodoro method is how I learned to work with my adhd in order to get schoolwork done! I figured it out by myself, but I didn't know until now that it was an actual thing with a name! it makes schoolwork take a little bit longer overall, but my work is more efficient and better quality because I have those little mental breaks in between.

As a chronic multi-tasker, I've found batching to be the single most useful tool to increase my productivity - that and setting 30-minute timers to keep me on track/track progress. Thanks for the great video!

From my experience, #5 is the enemy of #3 and #4... It's so easy to fill your day with small tasks that require less effort, while the big tasks that require sustained effort and attention get pushed to the side. I try to use Pomodoro technique (more or less) in the morning to get a chunk of research done, and then allow smaller task (like those two minute ones) to seep in during the afternoon. That's just what works for me as a grad student. :)

Needed this today, esp. since this whole quarantine thing has totally axed my daily routine and productivity. Hope TFD and the comment section is staying well and healthy! <3

Man.... I needed this today. These last few months I have been so overwhelmed with working at home. Never needed healthy work at home habits before, it's been very difficult, and usually ends with me being down on myself and feeling constantly irresponsible and lazy. THANK YOU TFD!

Definitely starting with tracking good habits. I've never been one to exercise at home but now that we are home bound for the foreseeable future I'm going to need this motivation for workout at home.

I like how this video emphasizes a variety of ways to enforce a schedule! I think that’s the most useful way of “saving time” - once you figure out the things you’d like to do in your day, you can make more time for those highlights. It’s also helpful to hear during this virus outbreak - setting a routine when times are uncertain is an important way to feel healthier and more in control.

Chelsea: “Never turn off a TFD video”

Me: Happy to oblige to the sage advice as I enthusiastically abandon my to-do list!

In all seriousness, your channel has helped me financially in so many ways! Thanks for the awesome content!!

I love the two minute rule! I made a promise to myself a while ago to not procrastinate on small tasks and it's been working out great. Sometimes trying to form a habit with the two minute rule turns into continuing to do the habit for only two minutes a day, though.

I use a habit tracker called Loop and it's fantastic! It's just a tick list where you can fully customise frequency of habits and reminders. I love seeing the data build up and find it really satisfying to tick off my good habits like a to do list.
