I know that Stairway to Heaven came out in November 71, but for me it will always be the song of the summer of 72. I didn't even hear it until January of that year although I had their first 3 albums. Just how I remember those wonderful years.

I can't really argue with this list. So many great bands in the 70's. All of these artists were great.

Those that enjoyed the bands of 1971. Are the quickest generation passing today. Another 20 years. And the bands will be forgotten.

There were so many great songs released in 1971 that it’s probably the greatest year in the history of music!
Children Of The Grave doesn’t belong in the top 10.
You should look at the 10… er… uh… 25 best albums of 1971:
Led Zeppelin IV
YES Album & Fragile
Who’s Next
Aqualung (Jethro Tull)
At Fillmore East (Allman Brothers)

Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones)
L.A. Woman (Doors)

Baba O'Reilly also owes its familiarity and longevity to 17 seasons on the American television show CSI...

I like “Baba O’Riley”, along with all the tracks off of Who’s Next, but “Won’t Get Fooled Again” is the superior track. Either song is better than “Children of the Grave”, I think.

Re: Baba O'Riley. I don't understand what you mean by a 'loop' . The intro and the synthesiser part all the way through the piece is not played on some kind of tape loop. In the studio Pete played it all the way through and on most of their gigs Rabbit used to so the same. They weren't some 80's synth band.

What you most missed with Aqualung that made it special, is that Ian Anderson was a bit blocked and handed the lyric writing over to his wife, who came up with the most amazing lyrics that kick started the band back into action. And with 'Stairway to heaven', you should never forget the purloined input of the great Randy California'!

I have no problem with this list, but, there are many other songs that COULD have been on it.

Where is July Morning by Uriah Heep? Echoes by Pink Floyd? Strange Kind of Woman by Deep Purple?

I would add "I'm Eighteen" by Alice Cooper. Love it to Death is one of '71s best albums with an honorable mention to "Fireball" by Deep Purple
