Thank you for the information.
I picked up my 2021 Silverado RST with the 5.3L engine from my dealer a couple of days ago after experiencing engine problems.
I had a collapsed lifter in cylinder #8. Luckily, my dealer had been proactive in ordering parts so they had everything on hand. My truck fell in a build window that if one lifter failed, GM told the dealers to replace ALL lifters.
I was out of town for a few days. While gone, the dealership got the repairs finished before I got home. I’m disappointed in GM and Chevrolet but grateful to my dealership for the quick turnaround.
My truck had 7, 400 miles on it when the lifter failed.

My 17' GMC sierra 5.3 no powertrain problems myself. 175000km. Under warranty had replaced battery, seal for roof antenna replaced, starter. Thanks for your videos I appreciate them. Change oil religiously. Forgot to add, 160000km I put on a cylinder deactivation delete that you plug into truck

I was driving on the interstate a couple of days ago in my 2019 Silverado 1500 6.2L doing about 70 mph. All of a sudden the engine just died and the transmission shifted its self into neutral. Luckily I was able to make it over to the emergency lane before I got hit in the rear. There was no warning or anything. Had it towed to the dealer and they told me the engine was locked up and had no oil in it. I have been doing my own oil changes since I was able to drive some 55 years ago. I did an oil change just a few months prior so I know for a fact it had oil in it. Now the dealer is telling me it’s going to cost $13k for a new engine! This is total BS. I think there needs to be a class action lawsuit brought on GM for all of these engine problems. This is costing a lot of people a lot of money that we shouldn’t be paying for.

Despite disabling Cylinder Deactivation, they will still fail. The lifters will become faulty and collapse no matter what. GM techs regularly expect several of these vehicles a month for this job. They keep the kits stocked at the dealerships because it’s constant. I keep waiting for my 2017 Suburban to break, it’s at 70K miles. My 2003 Suburban Z71 at 230K and no issues. My 2006 Silverado 2500HD at 124K and no issues. I trust my older vehicles and not the 2017. That says it all.

Bought a 2022 AT4X a year ago, waited 8 months to get it. Almost got shafted by the dealer once it came in marking it up $10k more than the original contract only to have catastrophic engine failure. Now needs full replacement at 10k miles and being told it could be several months before I get it back. It’s been a month already.

I have a 2010 with 5.3. Couple of years ago the truck would shutter like the ujoint was go to come apart in 4 cylinder mode at 60 and 80 km, put a range delete in it. Made no difference to the average fuel economy and the shutter went away.

I have a 2019 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. A little under 100k I got a “engine oil low add oil” notification. Was only about 4k since my last oil change. Checked dip stick and it was in the low end. Now, currently at 103k and got the same notification. 1700 miles since my last oil change age and the dipstick was completely dry. Had to add 2qts. I’d be super disappointed if this would be an expected issue with barely over 100k on my truck. Have always kept up with maintenance and oil change done every 5-6k miles.

What is sad is that there are so many more people who are having problems with these GM motor trucks/Silverado, etc. that we don’t read or hear about. Like you said, as time has passed especially over last 8 to 10 years, it has gotten worse. My relative had an early 2000s Silverado that ran like a charm. Beside wear and tear, motor was great past 200, 000 miles. He unfortunately was talked into trading for a new (2017, at the time ) Silverado from the dealership. At just over 75, 000 miles….”Lifter” issues costing thousands and thousands to have repaired. After lengthy arguments with dealership, they finally offered to buy back the truck, but at an average KBB value (which we know ends up being a loss since another vehicle most likely has to be purchased). He agreed to let them buy it, but absolutely will not be purchasing another GM Truck. He will use what money he got from the sale to buy a Ford or Toyota truck.

My '21 Silverado had CEL turn on at 19, 130. They replaced all lifters. You'd think that would be the remedy but no. At 19, 300'ish CEL turned on again. Went back into shop and they couldn't "replicate" the issue. Returned to me. Prior to getting to work CEL went on and back it went; same day. Now they informed me that when the lifters were replaced that they forgot to replace all the spark plugs. They did just that and now CEL is no longer on. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other but maybe you can shed some light on it and maybe, even, tell me all is good to go. Thanks for all the content you provide!

Cliff, 2015 LTZ 5.3L. 93, 000 miles. ZERO issues. Has never seen a mechanic (except myself) or a dealership. Now, Mobil1 0w-20, done myself. Quick drain valve on the oil pan, every 4000 miles since new (I am the original owner). Transmission fluid change every 45K. I have a "ghost touch" on my Mylink digitizer screen. That's it. I love my truck. Oh, and BTW, I have seen the Delphi engineer video who explained the lifter collapse. Pretty much ALL oil related issues. Keeping my fingers crossed, but a head gasket job is cheaper than a new truck. BTW, I would go to a Godzilla if I had to switch.

I think rather than a recall they will extend the warranty like they did on the duramax injectors in 2004 especially when they lose the lawsuit 😂👍🏁 great video keep us updated please thanks

I have 219, 000 mi on my 2012. For the last hundred thousand I keep it in fifth gear to keep cylinder deactivation from kicking in. I have never had any problems ever with this truck. Never been to a mechanic for anything.

Love my 2019 chevy Silverado 5.3 coming up on 50k miles runs great, only issue with it was a small leak on rear window and a clunk coming from the rear when going slow and breaking, I added traction bars and clunk went away, also added a PULSAR LT and no more DFM best investment I did

It’s funny how GM tried cylinder deactivation on the Cadillacs of the 80s (called 8-6-4) and the issues that happened then are almost identical to the issues with the GM trucks today.

Good friend of mine and her husband both got new 2020 Yukon Denali suvs. Hers had the engine and transmission replaced. Her husband's had the transmission replaced. They are old, and don't stress the vehicles, have the oil changed at the stealership (my words not theirs). And now hers is stalling intermittently when coming to a stop.

I have a 17’ Sierra 6.2l that’s had 2 lifter failures one at 66000 and again at 77000 miles now on each side of the engine both costing $3k. I did purchase a extended warranty that covered both failures. After the first i I started using manual shifting putting the 8 speed trans into 7th gear to avoid the AFM DOD from disabling 4 cylinders and I still had a failure. I purchased the truck new it has always been dealer serviced and maintained and always ahead of service schedule mileage requirements.

I have a 2021 Sierra 1500 AT4 5.3l with 16450 miles only serviced by the dealer. It was in for scheduled oil change. Dealer called and said engine is locked up after oil change. They said it wouldn't crank after oil change and put a starter in thinking it was bad. They say it needs a new motor.
