Fun fact: Some american troops actually used white table cloths given by local citizens to cover their green helmets, that's how bad the winter gear situation was.

I'm addicted to this channel, thank you for documenting this history in such an entertaining and "right to the point" kind of way.

My great grandfather Major Walter N. Perry was on the ground and came home. Many didn't. His son died in his p51 mustang two days before Christmas. His son was also Walter Nowell Perry Jr

My grandfather was in there. He brought back a wool overcoat the name in it was not his. The inside of the coat was bloody I had it cleaned wore in the winter some days. I would assume he found it on the battlefield and used it for the rest of the war. Unkown name on jacket Jerry Pennie. Think I got the spelling may be Penny but I remember was spelt strange. Thank You All Who Served 🇺🇸

One thing to always remember when doing cosplays or re-enactments is to never buckle the American chinstrap in ww2 because it’s what the Americans did during ww2

My late father, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, told me that in the winter of 1944/45, he swapped a lot of his British battle dress with the Yanks. Mostly for extra rations! He said the American boys were freezing as their kit wasn’t as warm as the British uniforms?

My grandpa was there 82ABN he said they didn’t have winter clothes and they froze. Fortunately he made it home in one piece

My Great Grandfather Died Crossing the Saar River a few days after the battle of the bulge ended. He left four kids behind.

Considering the americans always claimed to be the best equipped army going, doing a Napoleon and Hitler by forgetting it gets a bit chilly in winter in Europe and not preparing for it by not stockpiling winter gear is a bit embarrassing especially when you find the brits had to donate camo gear to stop their allies getting spotted by the enemy.

This is great impression but I believe that most soldiers by fall 1944 had got the new m43 field jacket instead of the m41 jacket shown here

Been studying Korea a lot lately and so I’ve gotten used to seeing Commonwealth troops wearing US uniforms. Fun to see it the other way around.
