I had both. I had my 2006 2 door coupe ex for 3 years and then got a 2008 4 door FA5 Si in 2011. I still have my FA5 and I daily drive it, in Canada (winters and all) for the past 12 years which tells you all you need to know.

They are fun, extremely reliable and awesome to drive. Save up and get the Si, you will not regret it!

For that specific gen yes a SI is the one you want. Not saying the r18 in the non si is bad but if youre a car guy the SI is the one that youll thank yourself for getting

Save for the SI. No question. Way better starting point

Just bought my first civic last month and went with the 09 si. Really fun platform for the money would highly suggest for people looking for 10k tuners

As a solo car the si is what someone should get. I bought a lx as a daily and love it but its by far not anywhere close to sporty.

I bought a ex first then realized I should have just bought a si. Bought a low mile fa5 a year later and now I've pulled out the k20z3 ( still ran perfectly ) and am going k20/24. 12.5:1 bottom, p&p'd z3 head with dc004 cams, fbo and a fuel return system. Hopefully I get low to mid 300's with e85

I bought my 2010 one owner si with 23k miles on it for 10k Canadian 2 years ago. I wish I never sold it

5 years with my FA5, 180K on the odometer. Had to replace the synchros because of the third gear grind, gone through two clutches beating on it. other than that only major issue I had was a bad starter at some point.

It’s actually down in the shop right new for Drag cartel 2.2 cams, hasport motor mount kit, new clutch, Rdx injectors and Rsx fuel pump (balance shaft delete). Already had full bolt ons, rdx throttle body and hondata by this point. Can’t wait to see how she runs. Will post videos as soon as I get her back if y’all want to check her out

Thank you so much for answering this question for me! Sadly though, I already bought a 2007 Honda Civic Ex Coupe that I'm planning on lowering.

It’s funny how these cars are now getting so much love and I had the ex civic before it was cool

My cousins 95 eg si is a totally different beast than any of the lower trims. Some aggressive ass vtec. Sounds fantastic too.

As someone who had a 06 ex and a 2011 si both FGs, don’t waste time on a r18 ex. You will be flat footed trying to get anywhere. The si makes passing and highway merges so easy. Often not even having to down shift.

As a Malaysian, I say I am glad we got the FD2R domestically.

I have the 2007 FA5 currently. Daily driven for the past 5 years. Reliable, fun, practical enough for me, and just engaging for me to drive. Definitely recommend it if you can find one for a decent price.

Nothing wrong with a base model I can’t think of one Honda boi who hasn’t had a base u start from the bottom and later get the si then the type r .. start from the bottom Honda has a lot to offer for any car

I didnt get the SI but if you want a slightly more luxurious civic, get the ILX, imo its underrated, very reliable and fun to drive

I would’ve liked a SI model of mine, but seeing that you gotta run premium 91 gas & with prices rn I couldn’t imagine it.

I spent the extra money and got the Si. And while I did get a good deal I haven't regretted my 8th gen for a second. If you want real ol school honda feel get an 8th gen or older. If you live where you need or just want extra torque go for a 9th. And if you don't mind sacrificing ol school feel for new school tech n boost power shoot for a 10th gen or newer. I'll always recommend Si though if the money is there esp on older ones 💯
