3 Mistakes to Avoid When Opening a Restaurant

Here are 3 mistakes you need to avoid when opening up a new restaurant.

1. Don't Change Your Recipes:
The way you make those recipes are what will bring customers back. Trust your gut and your expertise.

2. Don't Skip Staff Training:
Your team are your first line of defense and can make or break that guest connection. Make sure they're trained well.

3. Don't Rush to Expand:
Before you hurry to get a second spot open, make sure your first location is down to science. Trust me on that.

These mistakes are so common and can cost you a sh*t ton if you make them.

Man, i agree with this but the first rule got me. There was a restaurant behind my place of employment that had some of the best food, it went under due to COVID lockdowns. New owners come in and keep the same menu but changed the recipes for everything. Tasted like crap and didn’t last a year. If you buy a place and it is doing well don’t try and make it better! If you do try and make it better you had better make sure the regulars that keep it going approve.

So true on staff training, its so surprising how many people lack proper training in customer service. Even if the food is good having bad customer service can leave a sour taste in your mouth

Because of you, I'm thinking of travelling to Michigan and trying your food. This was genuine and honest advice. I am sure your food is amazing because it’s coming from a good place. I wish you all the best.

As someone on the outside looking in, number 3 is one I figured out on my own lol I cringe so hard anytime I see a new local restaurant expand or a newer food truck open a permanent location. Usually they end up going out of business within a year.

I feel like you might have to change if you make a new location depending on their tastes

Over ordering product to start. Have people that will deliver on order.

I love that you speak facts. One time I asked a restaurant if their ranch dressing was house made, they said yes. When I tasted it, I said bullshit I know house made ranch, this ain't it. 😂

Do not buy enhanced meats that contain flavorings, preservatives and broths for resturant or home use. They are junk.

Work the heck out of one restaurant. Expanding doesn’t double your profit necessarily. It can double your headaches.
